I have a pair of Beovox 4500 which function as rear speakers for my Beovision 8-40 through a MCL2P. Last year I managed to get a hold of the amplifiers turning the Beovoxes into Beolab 4500. The work fine through the MCL2P but I want to connect them through powerlink so as to have the speakers switch off automatically.
I acquired some powerlink cables (the thick fully wired ones) and I made a setup connecting the 4500 with powerlink but they don't seem to switch on. The product config program explains to set the sensitivity switch to three bars and to set the L/R/A switch to either L or R which i did. I the test I only connected one of the speakers to the powerlink connections. The speakers dont switch on like my front beolab 8000's
Any ideas why it wont work?
The setting of the sensitivity switch doesn't matter with PL connections, it doesn't have any effect then.
Have you actually turned the amps on with the audio/video switch on the side? Quite easy to overlook if you've never operated one before...

Yes i did switch the switch to video like the manual mentioned. The setting of the sensitivity switch was in the product config program. Could one of the following be of influence?
- i only connected one speaker as i am testing before putting new wiring in.
- choice of speaker in the audio setting on my bv8? Currently i have selected a beolab 4000.
Neither of those issues should matter. Have you tried connecting a 4500 in place of one of the 8000s to rule out any problems in the TV configuration?
Did you swap the Beolab 4500 for the other one? Could be a faulty amplifier if the settings are correct.
If you touch the phono jacket on the inside, does the BL4500 swich on when you set it to "N".
The sensitivity switch works independent from the input switch, meaning that once you set the switch to either left or right, the sensitity switch doesn't work anymore.
I cannot try them in place of the Beolab 8000's because the Beolab 4500 require a fully wired PL cable. Would setting to Penta make any difference as rear speaker?
Don't the fully wired cables only allow the display to show? If you use the cables to the Beolab 8000's you should get sound but no display I think.
I have had problems with the speaker settings on newer Beovisions and have had to go through the whole list of speakers to get a non-listed pair of older Beolabs working. Try all of the speaker types mentioned to see if you can find one that works. This can be a problem of using a newer Beovision with 'older' type Beolab speakers such as the 4500's.
Dave.
Zwets:I cannot try them in place of the Beolab 8000's because the Beolab 4500 require a fully wired PL cable.
Of course you can. Unplug a 8000 from the TV end, insert the cable of a 4500. Or am I missing something?
Not sure if the 4500 really need all pins just to turn on... internally, they seem to use both PL controls (pins 4 & 1) whereas the 8000s and most other newer models only connect to pin 4.
Dave,
I'll give it a try this weekend. Thanks! The fully wired cables were necesarry I believe when I checked out Steve's (Sounds Heavenly) video.
You need fully wired cables like with the penta's.
Both pin 1 and 4 need to be connected and powered. Otherwise the Lab will not start up.
I suspect that the BV8 doesn't activate the pin 1 in the powerlinkconnector. You could try to short pin 1 and pin 4.
