Has anyone already experiences with a setup with 2 (or more) NL products (NL tv's)?

How do they integrate?

What does work - and what not?

What can actually be done - and what are the benefits of an integration.

Same question - involving the NL/ML Converter (including connected speakers/the 'Join' function) and ML products: what are the benefits?

Greetings Millemissen

The following are a few points I am aware of related to the NL/ML Converter:-

  • There can be only one BeoLink Converter NL/ML connected to the Master Link segment
  • Supported products are BeoVision 11 and later, all Master Link products including ML Gateway
  • Sound can only be distributed to the configured Network Link product. So if there are two Network Link products in the Ethernet network, only the product configured in the BeoLink Converter NL/ML will be able to receive sound
  • BeoLink Converter NL/ML apparently does not support browsing BeoMaster 5 Photos and CD covers on the TV screen
  • BeoLink Converter NL/ML cannot communicate on the Master Link if the link is only connected to audio link room
  • Master Link should also be connected to at least one audio master or one video product
  • BeoLink Converter type 1611 can be used instead of an audio master.

If you share speakers on the NL BV's you can listen in to the sources connected on each BV.

The Join button is the same as the Play button on older kit, it's just renamed Join hence that is what you are really doing when listening.

If you only have NL products and you want to have a NL Converter, you are really only gaining the aux-in ATM as well as the ability to use it as a Active kit at the same time.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

Thanks BeoMegaMan,

I am at the moment trying to understand this from its 'practical side/ for the everyday use.

I'm am (theoritically) well informed of what NL is, but often people ask: what does that mean for me, what can I do, if I have two NL-BV's.

'Share speakers' - does that mean (as an example) that I can listen to a cd - in a BRP connected through HDMI and controlled through PUC  on one NL-BV (say in the livingroom) - on the speakers of another NL-BV ( say in my bedroom)?

What should I do/which button(s) on a Beo4 should I push to do this/hear the cd?

What if I only want to hear the cd (from the livingroom/BRP) on the speakers of the 'bedroom BV' - is that possible, or can I only 'join in' if the cd is playing in the livingroom as well?

There are lots of explanatios of how MasterLink works in everyday life (ML Handbook and more) - but you can hardly find anything of this kind (from B&O).

Do they want us to use NetWork Link, at all?

By the way: What does the term 'BeoConnect' mean/do? You can find that in the settings of a NL-BV.

NL has been here for some time - what is the use of it? We need practical answers!

elephanth wrote above: 'Good question!' - I think it is indeed a good question. It is about how we put our setups together in the future.

Or should we stay by ML (and lots of 3. party products) just because B&O can't tell us why/for what we need NL Crying

  1. More BLC to ML is possible (presumably not intended); BLC is the new Beolink Active+ but it is not for everybody to connect more than one ML; restriction; etc(tried BS5 to one and BS7000 to another)
  2. true
  3. but with two BV11 and two BLC more is possible
  4. true
  5. depending of setup (V.Master contra A.Slave)
  6. ?? but for the moment audio sources in option 0 do not work
  7. true; testen with BS7000

Easy to connect a BS5 Encore to BLC LineIn. You can listen to this source on ML and NL

Listen to all the connected sources on one tv on the other tv

I presume you refer to the sharing in de Beoconnect setup. If it is set to ON the speakers connected to this tv are started when a source from the connected BeoNet product is started

Millemissen:

What should I do/which button(s) on a Beo4 should I push to do this/hear the cd?

this depends on the settings in the BLC; but normally it is true with CD; the connected CD will start

Millemissen:

just go the bedroom and choose CD (as with ML)

it is very sad what is happening

NL - nobody knows anything about, not even those working in bang olufsen shops

every time I asked about the NL, I was told by Masterlink, Beolink Converter NL/ML ,Atlona matrix ,aplletv in several rooms.

but nothing absolutely nothing about NL.

You can listen to that CD in the BRP in room 1 on the BV in Room 2, you can't control it however. You're simply listening in to that local source. If the BV is off in Room 1 then you will not have access in room 2. It won't even populate on the screen that it is an available source.

Millemissen:

What should I do/which button(s) on a Beo4 should I push to do this/hear the cd?

You can select the source on screen once it's turned on. It appears as a source under the source list. You could in theory label that input as any hard or soft button that isn't being used locally or on the network.

Millemissen:

- Yes, simply select that shared source on the bedroom BV. Again, no control, just audio.

Millemissen:

Do they want us to use NetWork Link, at all?

- B&O does, they just don't have anything else NL enabled besides the converter and current BV's. The NL concept was released as a future forward product...... the future is starting to finally arrive, so I imagine we will see new products NL enabled this year.

By the way: What does the term 'BeoConnect' mean/do? You can find that in the settings of a NL-BV.

- BeoConnect refers to the method of connection between two NL enabled products. Think of it as simply MasterLink Connection - or would you like to connect to (XXXX) ML Product. Hopefully that makes sense.

Or should we stay by ML (and lots of 3. party products) just because B&O can't tell us why/for what we need NL Crying

As we go further down the rabbit hole of NL, you will see all of the benefits and then some of ML finally come around. Especially as you add additional newer products.

Hi Carolpa and BeoMegaMan,

this is indeed very helpfull - but I must say that not all is clear.

I do understand that I can listen to a source from 'Room1' in 'Room2', BUT I can't control it, and that source will have to be active in 'Room1' (???).

If so, I can't really use that!

And I would prefer keeping 'the good old ML'!

Or simply have a source (e.g. a BRP for listening to Cd's) in each room - a much simpler setup.

"As we go further down the rabbit hole of NL........" ---- I would like to go down that hole with you, but will probably have to wait a while...

....for additional products.

For now (being asked) all I can say is, that ML is past and NL hasn't even begon.

We don't have to wonder, why B&O don't tell us, what we can do with a pure NL-setup - there is so very little to tell!

On the other hand, I can see benefits with the NL/ML-converter with one NL-BV (and a ML-setup).

You can keep your ML-based audio- and linkrooms, AND you can listen to the source on the 'AUX-IN'

(such as a Playmaker) in/from every room. You can even use it (if it is placed on the right spot in your house) as an 'Active Link' by 'joining in' to an active source.

Please do correct me, if I did not get the picture Unsure

Hi all,

what do you think how long will it take until you can do ANYTHING with NL what you can do with ML? I think we have to wait until 2025. I really hope my actual ML setup will not be broken until 2025. Actually I would NEVER replace one of my Beovisions or music systems, because they are working so fine in my ML setup.

I think so to, I had to change BeoVision 8-32 in the children's room because the screen was damaged. I waited for months to decide what to buy, having to choose between v1-32 or BeoVision 11-40 campaign price . And the end I decided to buy a BeoVision 10-32 demo model. :) I could not see anything "more"or better on tv with new NL platform

I think people are over thinking the whole NL concept. It is ML when used passively. It is NL (internet) when connected actively. The only limitation is out of box syncopation and the lack of an audio master that is natively NL enabled to which it can talk to the new video masters.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

This last thing: the "lack of an audiomaster that is natively NL enabled" might be the thing, that brings us into trouble.

We are used to ML with audiosystem and videosystem (integration), and can't see/experience that with NL at the moment.

Maybe B&O should hurry up presenting this missing 'NL-audiomaster' before losing us - before losing many costumers now switching to Sonos and co.

P.S. The answer to the question I also had: 'what is meant by "passively/actively"', I have already found here:

New NL audiosystem would be appreciated.

But to my opinion one shouldn't think in audiomasters and videomasters with Netlink anymore. To my opinon this will be the biggest advantage over ML.

I have to recheck it, but I don't think it is nessesary that a source has to be localy active to hear it in another room

Beoplay V1 is also supported. See answer from FAQ on then Bang and Olufsen site:

Yes, you can connect your music system to your BeoVision 11/BeoPlay V1/BeoSystem 4 using the BeoLink Converter NL/ML and get sound distributed to other rooms. Note that your TV must be updated with software version 1.0.3.30552 or higher.

This setup requires that WAKE ON LAN must is set to ON in the television NETWORK menu.

Contact your Bang & Olufsen retailer for more information.

How to play a CD. Which button: Remember that CD is used as default for Spotify on BV11 and V1, but it can be reconfigured in the settings.

Someone wrote:

I don't think this is correct since there must be a reason for the the configuration "Wake on LAN" that can be set on BV11 as explained in the user guide.

I mean technically the BS/BM5 is that product. It just doesn't do syncopation/N.Radio till you get the NL Converter involved. What NL didn't have out of the box was the ability to use it in the same manner as ML. I don't think B&O thought it would be as big of deal as it turned into with current and potential users. I think B&O made a product that is great for tomorrow users in a world full of yesterday users still (no ill will meant in that statement). It's hard for people to get used to operating so differently, when everything that has been released has been legacy controlled and operated. Going forward everything makes perfect sense. It's the support for older stuff that can get a bit hard to understand in regards to NL.

Technically if everything is NL'd you could have all important sources on 1 BV and share those sources audibly+synced to all other NL products on the system (no video). You can even control those rooms independently without the need for a MLGW with the use of the BeoRemote APP (meaning turn on BV1 while in the room with BV2, so you can pull the sources from BV1 over).

Brilliantly put but everyday, customers are rejecting this scenario with regards to Audio only distribution.

The B&O NL(IP) solution as presented today, is still based on ML thinking. If it continues in this way it is a DEAD solution.  That is a shame as it has great potential.
