For the OPPO103 there is a new PUC.

What is the difference to the one for the OPPO93?

Would the 'old' one work as well?

I have the 'old' one in my BV8-40 PUC list and wouldn't like to spend money for an update, if not necsesary.

Would be nice to know before buying the 103.

On reviewing the two PUC's it seems that the only real difference is the addition of two extra commands in the OPPO103

Shown below is the list of commands in the OPPO93

Thanks Keith,

I had hoped that you would see this post Smile

I have no idea how to 'read' these screenshots - can you tell which two extra commands were added?

By the way - I see the number of commands in the 93 is 49, and in the 103 it is 52 ---- which makes a difference of 3 commands.

Clearly, I had a little problem with my maths, apologies, as you say the 103 has three (3) extra commands.

The following is the complete list with the last three commands being the extra commands meaning that if you don't want to use any of the 3 commands then you can use the 93 PUC to control the 103

Thanks again,

Well, well - should I really update my PUC-list to have an easier way to Netflix?

That's the big question!

I am sure one can get there (to the Netflix application) through scrolling through the menues.

I'd really like to see that (the 103PUC) in action, before I pay my frendly dealer for coming to visit me Big Smile

Seems that the (OPPO) Blurayplayers are 'out of time' nowadays in the B&O shops - they are just demoing the Homemedia function of the BV's there!

A few months ago, Keith provided an XML file on the Beo5/6 forum for the Oppo 103. It has those extra 3 commands. The hard keys on the Beo6, however, are not programmed in that XML. Still, the soft keys work great. It's nice to know that if you have the Oppo 103 hidden in a cabinet, Oppo offers an external IR receiver on its website for around $30.

Hi beojeff,

Why would you use/need this 'external IR reciever'?

The very discreet external receiver is to control the Oppo with a Beo6 if the Oppo is hidden in a closed cabinet. For example, I have my Oppo in the Beosystem 1 brushed aluminum cabinet. To control the Oppo directly from the Beo6 using the XML file, I would have to leave the aluminum door of the cabinet open. With the external IR receiver, I can have the cabinet door closed.

I'm just referring here to the use of the Beo6 controlling the Oppo directly. I'm not referring to having the PUC loaded on your BeoSystem 3 or B&O TV.

Also, Oppo has a great app for control via an iOS device.

I use the Cambridge equivalent of the earlier Oppo. Totally different PUC codes. The Cambridge has a front receiver to which the B&O IR blaster can be attached in the usual way, but also has a direct IR input jack on the rear of the machine that looks a bit neater than the front blaster attachment which, inevitably, needs some adhesive tape to keep it in position.

I am still using the front connection though, using one of the self adhesive blasters that came with the BV11.

@beojeff ---- I did not think of that - I'm not a 'BEO6-guy'.

@vikinger ---- I plan to use the cabled ir-input on the rear, even though I will have to change to another ir cable.

I suppose the OPPO will be the last Blurayplayer I buy - it does/can everything I need (apart from AirPlay of cource) for my BV8-40.

My recent BRP uses the blaster.

Looks nicer - and does not fall off as time goes by.

I must admit that I some times have thought of the Cambridge Azur

I remember Geoff Martin mentioned that he uses the Cambridge in a thread a while ago about highres audio, samplerates and the BV11 sound engine/support for....

It is a lot of money - and has to be well considered.

I think you'll be very happy with the Oppo. It will play anything you throw at it and has a cleaner interface than the Sony or Samsung blu-ray players. I would recommend that you take a look on ebay for the modified player that is region-free for both dvd and blu-ray. A word of caution is that the settings can be rather tricky. You have to select the correct settings in order to get the best audio and video. It makes a difference which of the two HDMI outputs you use.

One nice surprise was when I tried connecting a thumb drive with video content on it. The Oppo automatically searched the internet and provided cover art for the video files!

I am well aware of what the OPPO is capable of (and how to 'manage it') - I just did not have had enough spare money to buy it yet.

I am going to buy it in Denmark - best price for the OPPO there (I don't know why).

Beojeff - that is ok, I appreciate that!

How were you to know that I already know the OPPO quite well.

My only concern was, if I can use the 'old' PUC, or if the 'new' would be much better.

Will report back when I get 'my own' in 'my own setup' Smile

Hi MM -- I am considering buying my first bluray player - and although I had always intended to get an Oppo for the BV8-40 I am now looking at a cheap LG, Samsung or Panasonic ... the downside is that none of them are in the pUC table in Keith's Wiki so I will have to revert to two remotes - but when the price difference is 5X or 6X or 10X I am the point of saying "what the hey ..."

Hej Millemissen.

I can make a custom PUC file for you with Netflix command available if you send me a PM.

Thanks for that offer!

But if I should load that,  I might as well get the original 103 PUC from my dealer.

Was thinking of avoiding loading another file, just using the 'old' one.

Oh didn't see that you have a BV8 so you'd need to flash it of course. The official PUC file for the 103 is merely a copy of the 93 one. The only difference as notice before is that three new buttons have been added. However, those buttons were mapped so that the can be used with BEO5/6. So they are not accessible with Beo4. This is also something you should be aware of.
