Hi guys,
I am a mostly happy owner of the BV11 - 40. However, I have one big complaint and that is regarding the dynamic contrast adjustment. Lately I have experienced this a lot when watching movies. Especially faces loose their detail and become almost all black in close ups with white background. When the shot is first shown the picture is great with perfect detail and then after one second the awful dimming sets in and blackens half the face Also during scenes where for example two people are talking and they are each shot with different backgrounds the dimming up and down from the dynamic contrast when the picture shifts between the two shots is almost like a joke. I think I have tried all kinds of different settings in the TV including the ones in the service menu but without any luck of turning this dimming off. What settings do you guys use on your BV11 or V1?
Best regards,
Frederik
BeoVision Eclipse 55, BeoPlay S8 (sub+rears), BeoPlay A9 MKII (living room), BeoVision Avant 32 DVD (retro gaming, basement), BeoLab 4000 (entertainment room, basement), BeoSound 8 (workshop), 2x BeoPlay S3 (PC), BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay H2/H3 (on the go)
There definitely should be a picture guide like the sound guide for the BV11/V1.
After two weeks of ownership and two weeks of settings I still can't find the perfect one for my needs, the picture is two dark in a dark room and the contrast adjustment is too visible.
I choose movie mode for all my video sources (TV, DTV, PS3, Youtube) after initially choosing dynamic mode.
Brightness and contrast are on 35/34 instead of 32 (in both ordinary settings and advanced settings) which gives a brighter picture without loosing details.
In the service menu contrast dimming is set on 2 instead of the standard 3 (out of 4) and you clearly see that there's less contrast adjustment on dark scenes.
Contrast dimming switched off in the same menu gives a much brighter and natural picture but the blacks are grey.
There is a huge difference between "off" and "4" in the settings, try it in a total dark room.

Chris Townsend:It's a joke in a dark room isn't it?
I was saying that to see the differences between "off" and "4" in the local dimming set up (service menu) and choose the set up you prefer, you'd better be in a dark room.
It's the case for me, it's very difficult to set up a Tv in a bright room.
Like I said before, and I second you, BV11 needs some light to work properly (and that's a "problem" for me only watching Tv very late at night and enjoying nearly dark rooms for it).
My corner lamp (with LC2) is one dot higher with BV11 than it was with BV10.
I noticed that this morning. Was very dark at 7am, BBC breakfast was on and the BV11 couldn't cope! Constantly changes the backlighting, every few seconds. It's also very obvious, too. If it was a quicker refresh, you wouldn't notice the change.
I'm happy with my BV11 picture though, dark room aside. I have no problems at all.
Chris Townsend: No I'm not sticking them to the back of my 11, but a strategically placed lamp doesn't half help.

That's a strategically placed lamp on the right of the picture...
Thank you for all the replies. I will try to fiddle with the settings again.
Like many of you I prefer to watch movies in a complete dark room. However, I have a light solution similar to ambillight on the back of the BV11 that lights up the wall behind the TV. I really hope that B&O would make it possible to disable the dimming completely through an update, although I doubt they will
rob08:How do you get into the Bv11 service menu?
