I found this forum really helpful in rectifying the issue I had with my CD player (earlier post) and thought I would try to enlist your help again to see if anyone had any clues as to why I get no sound output from my recently purchased BeoMaster 5500?

I have opened the box and can't see any loose wires or solder breaks.  I have also tried the mute button every which way without success. I am not getting sound from the speakers or headphone jack.

I saw a post about turning sound on on another system by selecting sound-1-store, however I have no 'sound' button on my MCP 5500.

Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks.

Could be a stuck muting relay, try the speakers in socket 2 and see if that works (the muting circuit only mutes speaker socket 1) and have you got the bridges installed on the line sockets (for external equaliser) at the back of the amp.

Thanks Lee, i'll try the speakers in socket 2 - can't remember if I had tried that or not, but good suggestion.  I am not sure what you mean by the second part about bridges installed on the line sockets though?  How should I go about checking that?

I get no sound even when I play the tuner - not sure if that informs the last point?

Many thanks!

See here.  The two jumpers (bridges) visible have to be present.

Do you hear hiss when you stick your ear to one of the tweeters?

Which speakers are you using ?
Can you tell if the muting relay clicks when you press mute ?
If not, excersize the headphone socket a couple of times by inserting a plug and taking it out again.

Since the headphone jack also is dead, that must sort out the muting relay from being the main fault. Ehh..?

A long list...

Hey guys, I have good news to report. After 2 days of fiddling around I am now getting sound out of the speakers and headphone jack! I wish I could explain how I got it to work, but truth is I have no idea.

It feels like the system is slowly waking up of its own accord - perhaps after the transport or following sitting unused for so long. I'm baffled, but relieved.  I notice that I get a hissing noise when adjusting the volume on the MCP until the lights go out and it returns to normal - no big drama, but something I try to investigate further.

really appreciate everyone's efforts and feedback! This is the most proactive forum I have participated on!

Upon thinking a little more, I now believe Martin may have been onto the reason here...after plugging and unplugging the speakers and headphone jack a certain number of times, I think she kicked into life. Anyhow hope this experience helps to serve others.

cheers,

Shef.
