Dear Beoworlders,
I left my Lab1 in my main house (South of France) and just got into a small appartment in Paris for working days only.
I would appreciate your opinion on whether opt for a8, a9 or Beolab 4000 (for which I am proposed a good deal). My appartment is definitely small : 35 square meters.
Thanks in advance for your helpfull comments.

Well, what can you say?
I would go for the A8.
You can eaily take that with you, when you are at home - I am sure you will find a place for it tere too.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
A lot depends on what you find important in your music. Tha A9 will have the best bass response and play the loudest. If you like sitting and listening and enjoy imaging the BL4000 will give you that as you can space them apart for a true stereo setup. The A8 is the most portable.
I think I'd go for the A9, as I like the fuller freq response, it's reasonably portable for moving around, and I like the way it looks. But it depends on what aspects of sound and other factors you find most important.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
The best bang for the buck would be the 4000's. $3,000 when new; plentiful used for $750. Excellent speakers as well. Can hook up your iDevice directly to them.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
4000's. Best value for money and you can use them with future systems when you upgrade... A simple ipod to twin line level phono lead and use it with your iPod, iPad, MP3 player for now. At today's used prices they will also hold their money very, very well.

Chris Townsend:Well I'm going to break the mould and say the Beolit 12. Pound for pound the best sounding device I have, including the A8. A much warmer softer sound than the A8, that doesn't need driving to get up to speed. Spend the rest on music etc

Indeed, already got Beolit 12. That's the one I would replace... if it's worth.
I also updated my signature !
Today, I went to my dealer : loved the impressive soft & precise sound of the Lab17 but the price..., disappointed by Lab3´s, could not figure out what to think of A9.
leduds: could not figure out what to think of A9.
4000s if you want stereo
A9 if you are happy with mono -- but some orchestral pieces still sound wonderful on it e.g. Finlandia
leduds:disappointed by Lab3
in what way / area ?

Wow! - surprised you were disappointed with the Lab3's, most are normally impressed. That said, in a side by side at a dealers a few years back, I found my self preferring the instore 8000's to the 3's but that could well have been the instore setup etc. The 3's in store sounded "laser-like" in their sharpness and detail whereas the 8000's sound more rounded and complete - (if I were buying either I would have been more critical in my comparison).
I've never heard the 17's (yet) but I do like the A9 as a "room filler" but would never consider it a "sit and listen to" speaker system because of the lack of stereo image. The 4000's I've heard (mk1's) always sounded good - but with extra funds I would have the 8000's or 3's depending upon your own listening preferences (and, if you have the option, in your own listening space where you can experiment with postion and "position"switch setting (if fitted), rather than a show room).
Limited to the original 3some, I would go for the 4000's no question - proper stereo speakers, 'nuff said.
Ban boring signatures!
