I'm new to the world of B&O and hoped somebody could me some advice. After moving house recently I was surprised to find we had been left a Beocenter 8500 and Beogram turntable. Everything seems to be functioning, as far as I can tell, but since the speakers weren't left I can't tell for sure. I appreciate this is now quite dated technology but wondered if the sound quality is good compared to modern day equivalents?
I'd like to start using the system and wondered what type of speakers would be well suited for listening to music in a reasonably large living room? Should I be looking at adding Beolab 6000's or something similar?
Also, has anybody got experience of successfully using an iPod with the Beocenter?
Thanks
Hi debohun,
Nice setup you get there ;). Not the most beautifull (as it is not shiny) in my view but very nice and easy to use.
One of the advantage of the beocenter 8500 is that you can plug active and/or passive speakers (through power link or speakerlink). So you can plug almost all speakers B&O builded (or any others brands (with the right cable)) .
After, it will depend if you want to invest in active speakers (more recent but also more expensive) or passive (some are very good too).
I have a beocenter 9500 (very close from your 8500) and have a pair of passive beovox S45 and a pair of active beolab pentas. I love my setup ;)
Some others here will also give you more informations ;)
To plug iphone/ipod/MP3 players or anything else (like an airport express), you just need a 5pinDIN ==> Jack cable (following a link at the end of this page, you will find a webshop that sell this kind of cables).
Hope you will join us as B&O fans ;)
What is the name of your turntable (B&O ?)
Any active or passive speaker will work.If you want something appropriate age & design-wise i would recommend
Actice: Beolab PentaPassive: Red Line RL, 60.2 alt RL6000
