I noticed that manufacturers are targeting a different sector in portable audio that Apple products can't cover and that is high-res. Sony is about to release one that plays DSD and priced around $1000 and Astell & Kern just released an even higher -end version priced at $2400.
Yet again B&O is missing out on all the fun with past mid-fi portable attempts and mid-fi headphones. Time for a change?
I will really like to see B&O take a stab in a market with a pocket friendly version of the Astell & Kern. The whole audiophile market is now more lifestyle friendly than ever so perhaps it is time for a lifestyle brand to be more audiophile friendly?
This is an interesting market segment which will grow and it should be more audiophile friendly as you say.
Why have a fantastic sound system at home and throw it away on the go and why mate an expensive set of headphones to a poor quality player and don't you just hate listening to your favorite track only to be interrupted by a cold caller.
Astell & Kern's AK120 Titan looks really good and is not badly priced, I've bought myself a Fiio Mont Blanc amp to boost my mobile sound and would like to upgrade to a quality mobile player in due course.
we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
It's high time for a Beosound 2 reloaded but how will you integrate a touchscreen into that form?
BTW I think the whole B&O inside branding for phones is like an epic fail. B&O used to make phones and hardware & software is going to be completely open platform in the very near future so to have a B&O inside strategy is like determining the fate of the company to never make phones or computer themselves down the road. Plus does B&O inside in phones really make a difference? I really doubt so.... It's bad publicity and for not too much return after all.
Oh I just thought of an idea. Semispherical touch sensitive sapphire lens cover over a circular Oled screen that changes color when different portion of the lens is touched, in the usual B&O circular control interface with an all too necessary touch/control/screen-off lock button in the form of Beosound 2 perhaps bigger in circumference with optical minijack integrated headphone out. Priced at cringe worthy $3000 - $5000 with $1500 in-ears. To come with a dock that the portable can nicely sit on and form into a complete with solution where the optical output drives the new range of labs along with Balanced and RCA outputs for the audiophiles. 124 GB - 256GB internal storage. Optional wireless card slots for syncing, air playing and playback.
Best public stunt ever.

I'm sure that idea will be stolen from you soon, with no ensuing credit or job offer.
Well it's on the forum with my picture. And thus is public. So anyone steals there will be a lawsuit. Please ask permission.
And who is this Symmes? I have not seen you around before.

Wasn't it you this week who had the biggest issue with that tiny 2" knob of the Essence?
The essence was lazy design. Just lifting off from an old Beosound 5 design with no improvement?
My suggestion is color changing touch glass screen underneath interface. Like hello....
And I enjoyed the Beosound 2 very much. You didn't have to look at it to control it. The headphone jack provides the sense of bearing.
Plus isn't color back? So why is B&O new direction is so devoid of color? B&O needs a fashion forecaster desperately.

Have you thought of writing to Tue and offering your services?
Ban boring signatures!
Who is Tue?
I am busy with my art debut now but I don't have the necessary kind of credentials. Just weird work experiences.
who is Tue?
That's made my night lol

Your answer 7 minutes later...:
"Plus isn't color back? So why is B&O new direction is so devoid of color? B&O needs a fashion forecaster desperately".
I give up!

It's OK to be unnoticed. I have a life in real life.
Tonker:Maybe you can make the 2 inch knob get bigger! Beovision 11-46, Beolab 14, Beovision 8-26/32, Beovision 3-32, Avant RF 28, Beosound 8, Beolit 12, Beocom 2, Beotime, H6 and Form 2, Beo 4's and a 6.
Chris Townsend: It includes a B&O chip I believe to improve the sound quality, as well as being able to be programmed as a remote. You fire your Beo 4 at it, and it remembers the code. It could ultimately do away puc cables I guess!

Sounds interesting Chris. Can you remind us on here when it's released? I'm looking for a new (non-iPhone) phone this year.
Dear All
I have some good news to inform you all. Lumigon is releasing a new updated 4G phone with revolutionary features in the beginning of next year where we have updated everything to the newest standards.
Our website will be updated with information in february 2014.
Best regards

Sorry just recalled who he is. I thought it was a handle of a forum member here.
I don't think a CEO will welcome a visionary into a company...
In any case whatever idea I put out yesterday was just a tiny slice of what I have to offer. I did not actually reveal the complete vision of the "Beosound 2 reloaded". I say vision because it came to me within minutes...
It's really not the individual ideas or functionality that makes a great product as you can tell from my many previous post and later what was put into the new products but it's the whole package. It takes a hell lot of commitment to perfect a product aka the iPhone.
Trend watch for consumer electronics is a branch of the many interests I have. Then again that has got to be a product of having too much spare time on my hands.
Don't quit your day job...

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Keep the insights coming, they're really informative.
Puncher: Keep the insights coming, they're really informative.
This reminds me of the old military saying, nothing is as scary as a 2nd Lieutenant saying "now, in my experience..."
Jeff: Don't quit your day job...
Can't you tell I don't have a conventional job by now already? ....lol..
Wait did you mean that as a joke?
Actually it will be great if my ideas for B&O can be more project based kinda thing but sadly the idea I have for just that portable player is kinda huge then I will have to set aside a lot of time for it then I might need to give up my current plans to be an artist. Unless I can simply input my ideas and let B&O handle the development and have them wait till my own art project is completed after this year. It's not that I am super busy but simply the fear of handling big responsibilities at a young age and have like " oh look at this sheltered guy that just waltz in with his.... " kinda drama. Been there done that... Had a nervous break.
Hint* The portable is way beyond just a player. Even have a whole marketing campaign in my head. No celebs involved. And targeting at a particular crowd that has actually really yet been ever targeted.
Maybe I can read up on how to make a design/business plan proposal. Any pointers?

I think you should wait until you break through as an artist before moving into the AV design business. You will then have the added cachet of an established "name" to help promote your design venture.

I think so too! Thanks for the advice.
But the ideas I have might no longer work at the wrong time. Perhaps I will mock up the full idea plan and gift it. And with an option of remaining anonymous till later. My fear will be ideas that go to waste because of selfishness.
What I noticed in a luxury brand is that it needs to be one of the first few to be part of a new movement to be successful aka the iPod. Apple sure wash't the first but it was one of the first few. Anyway nothing is set in stones in terms of what makes it or not.
