We're quite fond and even heavily depending on a nice little feature in our BeoVision/BS9000/Beolink-network. We have programmed three different timers in our BeoVision 7, because my wife and I have rather complex work schedules over the week (different starting hours changing from day to day, etc...). So every time one of these timers is reached, the radio of the BS9000 is automatically started, and sends its signal to our television in the bedroom.
The strange thing is, that every time we have suffered from a power cut-off in our house, then these timers don't seem to want to wake up any more. They are still properly programmed, nothing has been lost or so, but they don't "wake up" the BS9000 any more.
And an even stranger thing is, that this lack of response after a few days (sometimes more than a week) suddenly disappears, and everything is working normal again. Although we did nothing in particular (we think).
Does this ring a bell or sounds familiar for someone? And any idea how we could force this "healing" a bit quicker?
A Warm Welcome to Beoworld and your first posting
The situation you are describing is most likely linked to the BeoLink initialisation phase which is controlled by the power master and would be the first area I would look at.
When power is restored after a power failure all the products may not get into a normal working situation at the same time and therefore not all products may receive the REQUEST_KEY telegram on the MasterLink bus.
When a MasterLink system starts from scratch, no protocol key exists. The lock management protocol defined the rules that ensures that a key gets generated in the initialisation phase. It is the obligation of the power master to do this. The power master is the device delivering electrical current to the data connection of a BeoLink system. Also, if the key is lost in a running BeoLink system, e.g., if the lock manager is turned off, the power master must ensure timely generation of a new key.
So, in your case after a power failure or before a restoration of power after a power failure turn off at the mains plug each of the B&O products on your MasterLink which maybe just the BeoVision 7 and Beosound 9000, but any others you may have connected. After the mains power has been restored switch everything back on with the BeoVision 7 last. Then test the situation to see if it is working correctly or not.
Regards Keith....
Thanks for this quick and elaborate reaction (is this common practice on this forum? I'm not used to it ;-)
Alas the solution in your last paragraph surpasses my technical understanding of our BeoLink system. Where do I find that "power master" or "mains plug on our MasterLink"? If it's in the technical room, than I'm afraid that it's way too "crowded" with equipment & cables over there, that I wouldn't dare disconnecting something!
Are there any manipulations on the other end side of the system (the audio & video equipments) that might generate the same result? I'm asking that because in the past all of a sudden our timers did start functioning again (sometimes only after several days), without anyone having entered the technical room or having disconnected and reconnected anything in there.
Perhaps there's another, more userfriendly way of forcing the emission of that REQUEST_KEY telegram? Perhaps it comes as a side-effect of some other manipulation?
leysfi:Where do I find that "power master" or "mains plug on our MasterLink"?
We are talking here about the normal mains plug from the BeoVision 7 and Beosound 9000 which are plugged into a normal mains socket, plus the mains supply for any other B&O products you have installed.
Just switch them off, then wait a few minutes and then switch them back on again with the BeoVision 7 the last to be switched on at the mains plug.
I am sure your BeoVision 7 and Beosound 9000 are not in your "Technical room"
We've tried this, but it didn't change a thing, unfortunately...
Therefore we must assume that the MasterLink power up sequence is working.
Other than the BeoVision 7 and the Beosound 9000, what other B&O products do you have installed.
For example do you have a MasterLink Gateway which makes a link between your B&O products and certain 3rd party products?
We also have an MX4000 television in the bedroom (it's through that one that we get awakened by the BS9000 radio, driven by the timers in the Beovision 7. There is a MasterLink Gateway in our technical room, making the link with indoor and outdoor lighting and the Siedle videophone of our front door.
You had previously stated that the problem appears to fix itself after a period of time and my guess the is fixing of the problem is linked to the MasterLink gateway.
The MasterLink Gateway has a couple of software updates which effects the MasterLink timing, so this would be the next area to be reviewed. This is something your B&O dealer or installer would have to look at for you.
