The old Beovox 5000, seemed to came in 3 different versions.

Anyone that knows something more about this story.
Why it came in 3 so different element versions, what differed them.

Anyone had an oportunity to listen to more then one and made comparesments ?

Sometimes I wonder,... do some of the old developers, engineers at Struer Bang Olufsen lurk around here?, that maybe have interesting stories ?

Anyone met the old guard ?

I've heard all three but not on the same day so can't really compare directly but they do sound different.

Yes, some do. I know that a couple of them are at least reading on Beoworld and we have at least one or
two actiive posters but they keep a low profile.

that maybe have interesting stories ?

Yes, they do. Unfortunately, none of them seems particularly eager to share.

Anyone met the old guard ?

Yes. A few of them.

I have listened to all three. The best sounding is the last, the Mark 3 as it has dome tweeters and is the best balanced. The Mark 2 seems to be a cheapened version of the Mark 1. I think the Mark 1 is the one to have though - well built and designed specifically for the system. Works best with the Beovox 2500s which extend not only the frequency range (which I can't hear)  but widen the sound stage (which I can!) It is a really odd sensation - if you listen to just the 2500s, they make almost no noise - almost just a rustling sound. But attach them to another pair of speakers and they add markedly to the sound!

Just so you know, I have Mark 3s but never use them!

I've been looking hard for a set of those for ages. No success. Sad

Have you read Tim's article on the Beolab 5000 integrated in the December issue of Hifi News by the way?

I just saw an ad here in Denmark selling a pair for not much.

http://www.dba.dk/hoejttaler-bang-olufsen/id-1005614653/

Seller claims he knows nothing!

The price is for a single speaker or you can make an offer. It says second series on the back.

Do you mean the Beolab 5000 (60s) or the Beomaster 5000 (80s) ? Looked at the cover on line and it looks like Beomaster but it is very small print!!

Bought a back copy. I think he is a bit biased!! I note, if you download the test results, that it failed various tests! I have some RCA cables that will fit as well! My Frede restored 5000 is quite superb and one of only two set ups I would not part from - the other being my Frede 4401!
