Hello beolovers,

After a nice visit to Leslie, where he inspired me to repair everything that I still have on my todo list, I started to work my way through it. First thing on the list was my beogram CD 5500. Leslie was very nice to give me one of the player that he had laying around with a defect in it, and I was able to use that as a donor for the rubber that hold the reader in place. Thanks Leslie!

However, even though I have cleaned the lense with 70% alcohol, and tried to align everything according the service manual, the CD will play for about 30 seconds up to 3 tracks, and then I hear a 'tick' from the lens head hitting the inner side of the frame, and the CD stops. When I try to play it after this happens, the array of tracks is lit, but then it returns to standby. I have no clue, and would very much appreciate your advice on this. Do i need to replace the laser? Do I need to callibrate?

Thanks again Leslie, I am one step closer, but not there yet!

Cheers

Perhaps the RAFOC ribbon cable gets jammed at some point? This is a known problem after incorrect re-assembly. If it plays then the laser is fine. Don't touch any settings please.

Hi chartz, thanks. Is that likely  when sometimes a complete  is able to play (for example: at this very moment :), or when track 14 of 14 can be selected?

And is it correct that the track that is playing is blinking?

In any case I was very carefull with the assembly...

Cheers.

What did you swap? The complete laser chassis with the decoder board? Or just the chassis with the laser.

Are the capacitors on the decoderboard already swapped for new ones?

You should indeed replace the blue Philips on the servo board at the very least. And yes there were several versions of the CDM2 fitted.

I replaced one of the rubber corner that form the "suspension" of the laser, that is the only thing. That one broke. But in addition: the whole laser chassis is not shock free mounted anymore, all those rubbers are stiff. If i place anything on the tabel, the cd will skip. And can it be that I am not hearing a smooth sound?

I have no experience with replacing capacitators, but perhaps I should get into that. I also do not know if I should replace some in my beomaster 5500, since I have no point of reference... Anyone in the area of the Hague, NL, and wants to judge the amount of rapair that needs to be done? :)
