Hello everybody,
my daughter is turning 15 and has no stereo worth mentionning right now. I would like to buy her a used one (I cannot afford more). We have a Beocenter 9300, 2500 and Beomaster etc. 5500 at home.
Any suggestion that would
a) make a girl with good taste and interest for arts happy
b) would be a nice complement to the existing collection
c) would not look bad later in a student room
will be greatly appreciated
PS she has already a mac MP3 player and surely will link her computer to it later
Be seeing you
François

i when i was fourteen got a Beosound Ouveture and i cherish it to this day! I got a pair of beolab 2000 with it. Then i got an Avant and it has been master linked to that ever since. it looks good now and plus you can plug your iPhone into it. But i would either go for a beosound 8 or when it comes the new beosound A8
What about the super beautiful beosound1? A cult object in my opinion (i'v the limited edition in gold
BS8 is also a good idea... and they've just been discounted.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
Chris Townsend:The Beolit 12 by a mile. Tough, portable and ready to play the type of media she probably already uses. Amazing sound for such a small unit and no wires/batteries to worry about. Fair to say it is of a more feminine design as well.

Agree, but be careful, the Beolit 12 will attract music interested boys, as flies to horse sh1t.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

I thought I was the only one under 18 on Beoworld (I'm turning 16 next week). It is good to see, that more and more young people also are getting into Bang & Olufsen! And Beoworld is the best community to share our passion for it.

Let's see here... I'm turning 21 next month. Oh boy - feeling old old old.....

Clearly you are living proof that Mexican voodoo works on gringo's ! :-)
Hello François
If you were wanting to purchase a used B&O stereo, probably for the same money you will be able to get a BeoLit12.
As she already has a mac you can connect it to it as an external speaker and if she has an iPhone, it makes perfect sense.
If you involve her in the purchase you could say "oh i've been looking at these, what colours do you like". I think for someone arty and and good taste the BeoLit12 is the way to go.
Leslie, I was in the same situation when i was 14, very little pocket money but that was only if i did my 'chores'. No chores, no money! lol.

Working in greenhouses long long time ago. But then again I've spend all my money on girls instead of B&O
Off topic now, sorry Francois!
haha well there you go!

Francois started out, saying that they didn't have much money to spend on this -so I don't think they'll want to buy new stuff...
And one can surely find second hand B&O cheaper than both Beolit12 and BS 8. I would suggest a BS Century, because you then won't have to buy separate speakers (which can be quite expensive-at least the active ones). And you can connect a smartphone or a computer to it via aux.
As you, I was fed up on potatoes, that, Viking blood (I'm Danish), and Rum and Coke keeps me walking

My son is studying in DK, I live in Mexico, I bought from Martin a BM 1900 and 2 Beovox P35, I think it was, and a lot cheaper than any Beolit or BS8.
The BM has tape input that can be used for computer or MP3 players, and if she gets hooked, a Phono input for a Beogram, furthermore connection for 4 speakers and Beovox speakers are available everywhere.
My son love his BM and speakers, he use the FM and Ipod.
You're absolutely right, Søren. If you go for the vintage stuff, it'll be even much cheaper than a Century. But then again -when we're talking about things that are about 30-40 years old, you'll have to be very lucky to find items in good condition.
If you go for a refurbished item, I guess it'll cost quite a bit..?
May I ask how much you payed for that refurbished 1900 with speakers..?
Steffen:May I ask how much you payed for that refurbished 1900 with speakers..?
Not quiet sure it was last year, something like 400.00 USD
Today if you check US bay, you will get a BM 1900/2400 for USD 100.00, a pair of speakers for more or less the same, add shipping and spareparts USD 150.00, and we are talking USD 350.00, repair it yourself, add a CD player for USD 50 and you are still way below a Blit or BS8
Which country are you based in Francois ?
BeoNut since '75

For a teenage girl I think the Century would be the best choice. Compact and no hassle with loose parts.
On the other hand, if you insist to have vintage just let me know
well there you go Dennis haha :)
The problem is that we always end end buying what we are comfortable with, and probably what we used when of a similar age. I used to work on a University project a few years back and every single one of the students who were mostly male, used MP3 as their media of choice. And that was 2005.
i don't know the daughter in question of course, but i would bet that MP3/Lossless would be her current media, and if not the vast majority of her friends. A smart compact and portable Beolit 12 would surely be far more relevant today than a CD player, which i'm sure we all grooved to in the 80's(i tried anyway)
As revolting as this video might sound, these gents are us 20 years ago, and future Beovision 12/Beolab 5 etc consumers. We have to hook them now.

My 16 yr old has a 1980s Beomaster 6000 with a beogram 5000 as she has seen sense and loves vinyl!! I have to press P2 every morning to wake her up for school as she cant be bothered to use the switch on function!
I tried to swap it for a cheap mp3 player with speakers but she wouldnt have it at all because it "sounded crap" fair play!!
I originally gave my daughter a Beosystem 5500 and some speakers, but these took up too much space. I then got her a Beosound Century with an iPod dock - this seems far more acceptable.

As Francois wrote in the beginning: He could not afford a new one -and was going after used items...And it's not every teenagers dream just to have an iPod docking station. Some actually still go for good sound...My two nephews listen to vinyl -and I have bought Beograms for them. Please let this girl have a decent stereo system instead of a docking station...
I HAVE heard the Beolit 12 -and it IS one of the best sounding docking stations. BUT -it is not as good as a "real" stereo system with good speakers.
And again: He said that he didn't have the money to spend on new stuff...
-but wanted something affordable with good sound and good looks = second hand B&O.
She would be happy with a vintage B&O system; maybe a Beomaster 1900/2400 with a pair of Beovox S45's. My 15 year-old female cousin is very happy with her restored Beomaster 4400, a Beogram 4002 and a pair of S45's which I put together for under £150 incl a capacitor kit from Dillen
Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.
It does not really matter does it?
With B&O new, old or vintage it all sounds great right?
Therefore pick the design you like and go for it.
I heard that the beoplay is about to come out with another player very soon called the beoplay A8 it will be like the beosound 8 but will also incorporate apple airplay. However if your not looking for that but like the beosound 8, then now's the time to buy one as B and O are lowering the price to sell them off.
