When I plug my Beogram 4004 Turntable into my Beomaster 5500 Receiver the Receiver shuts off. I have a Beocord 4500 cassette and a Beogram 4500 CD plugged into this Receiver as well and they function properly. It is only when I start the record player that the Receiver shuts off. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?
The remote control facility in your deck is not compatible with those in the Beomaster.
To overcome this you can remove pins 6 and 7 in the DIN plug.
You will probably find that they unscrew with a fine screwdriver. At least they do in more modern decks.
Just a guess, you understand as I have not had a 4004

Thanks, but the Beogram 4004 is only a 5 Pin DIN connector.... In the operators manual to the Beomaster 5500 it says you can plug in both 5 and 7 Pin DIN connectors. The 4004 turntable is not remote control capable so I am not expecting to gain that functionality. I just do not understand why starting the turntable shuts off the entire system.

The whole point of a BG 4004 (over a late model 4002) is that it IS remote controllable. I suspect somebody has already removed the pins 6 & 7 from your plug - which creates exactly the setup I have at the summer house, a 4004 with a 5-pin plug and a Beomaster 5500, which works with no problems. Therefore I have no idea why the system would behave now like yours does, sorry

Should work fine - I use exactly that combination at times. I suggest there must be a short somewhere causing the 5500 protection circuit to kick in. Have a look at the DIN plug first as this is the easiest bit to fix!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Yes, two pins have been removed from the Din for the 4004.... did not know this until you suggested I check that out. I can say that it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I have a Denon DP-52F that I play through the Beomaster 5500 with no issues. What I have decided to do is use the 4004 with my Tandberg TR 2080. There doesn't seem to be any compatibility issues with the DIN sockets on the back of the Tandberg and the Tandberg's radio section is far superior to the tuners in the B&O receivers....
BTW - I have discovered that the B&O 4500 CD and 4500 Cassette player is not compatible with my original Beomaster 4000 either. Even with 7 Pin DIN RCA plug adaptors.... I get no sound through the 4000 receiver. And yes, the receiver is working properly.
They should also work - though recording on the Beocord will be an issue due to a different standard - both should work via AUX though. I am using a CD5500 through a 60s Beolab 5000 at present with no issues! Also works with my Beomaster 4401. Just plug them into the AUX socket using the DIN plugs. Again , remove the 2 extra pins.
