The BeoLab 17 is a gem, that does not get quite the attention, that the BL18 does.
There are only few reviews out there at the time being.
One of them was posted in the Geoff Martin blog:

Would be nice to collect some more (or the links) in this thread.
So feel free if you come across some out there.
If you are the owner of a pair of the BL17, this could be the place for your own impressions.
Greetings Millemissen
There is a tv - and there is a BV
I was just wondering if anyone has a combo Beolab 17 + Beolab 19 subwoofer?
Curious how this sounds compared with a pair of Beolab 18s without a sub?
currently my set up is a beovision 11 with beolab18 and a bl2, I have ordered the bl17 for rears expect delivery jan 2015. I kept the bl 2 from when I had my beovision 10
will let you know what I think after installed

Many thanks Malcolm - much appreciated!

I don't have the combo but did do a comparison at the store. The BL17+BL19 did sound better than just the BL18 in my opinion. The BL18 lacks bass and needs the BL19. I was really impressed with the BL17 overall, even though for my taste I found it a bit bright for stereo music. For cinema though it seems quite good.

I'm put off by the fact that it resembles a iMac PC...
Visually they are not comparable, but that was not the goal - so it is good we have a choice. Plus additional BL17 option with black aluminum body as of recent.
Thanx rxcohen for your impressions, I am looking for a bright sounding speaker set however not without bass (I listen to electronic music quite frequently). Also, the purpose will be a combo of Deezer streaming/iTunes and home cinema.
The beolab 17s definitely have bass, i was pleasantly surprised how deep the bass was on certain music i listen to when i had them.
to be honest they really are a lovely sounding speaker, i actually prefer the look of them in black.

The bass is good on the BL17, but the BL19 really makes a real difference. The same goes for the BL19 with BL18. I posted elsewhere the BL19 not only adds bass, but improves the performance of the other speakers above 120Hz. I just purchased the BL19 this week and added it to my 11-55 and BL1 setup. The speech now is much clearer when watching films.
For electronic music i think you would be very happy with the BL17 and BL19 combo, more so than just the BL18.
I have too disagree as the music i listen to range from r'n'b, raggae, hip-hop and the 17s excelled at that. I'm sure with the beolab19 sub it sounds even better but in the time i had them they provided ample bass with the music i listened to with them.
Sounds like it might be a good strategy to start with Beolab 17s and then add BL19. And then another pair of BL17 for rears.
I like the wallmount option, you can choose how visually striking you want them to be just by changing frets.
...and now with the Moment introduction Beolab 18 just "forces" itself visually as an obvious choice. :) Mentally swinging back again to Beolab 18s.
So not easy to spend 8000 EUR on soundsystem+loudspeakers combo. *choicestobemade* LOL
Try to get your hands on a copy of this month's Sound & Vision from the USA...

Will do Geoff. And thanks (again) on everyone's behalf that you take effort to personally attend to our dilemmas and questions.
Cheers, Roman
Go for the 18's you won't regret it! I was in the same position as you a year ago and so glad I made the choice I did. I am still amazed by them a year on.

CB:4 years later, still no more reviews out there It may compose a nice combo with the Squeezebox (or BS Core of course) connected optically...
Well I had a pair for a couple of years. I really like them, powerful sound with plenty of bass. I have also heard a system with an Avant tv and 4x beolab 17 and a beolab 19 sub. That is a stunning combo. Now if B&O had not completely lost my trust that would be the system I would like to have.
Aussie Michael:I really love the 17s and the look but I have been waiting to see what comes next as the BL3 replacement.
Same for me. If I'm not impressed with whatever comes as BL3 replacement, I believe I will just buy a pair of BL17 without hesitation.

I’d lke to know why someone would not wait for a speaker that is rumored coming soon?
Could be worth it - if not, the BL17 will still be there.
By the way - that is an overlooked and incredible speaker.

Ferdinand:I have BL17 and like them a lot. Had them in floorstands but now on table stands (horizontally). The only challenge I have had with them, and still have, is that one speaker is more bass dominant then the other. I never really got to the bottom with that.

elephant:Good discussion thank you. If the price of the BeoLab “30” is what I think it will be .... I will probably be looking at the BeoLab 17s too based on these comments !!! However I have never liked their looks. BeoNut since '75
