WIth a pair of BL8000s and a BL2 connected to a V1, is it possible to enable the sub WITHOUT filtering the bass from the 8000s? Unless I am mistaken it seems as if the bass management system on board automatically filters out the low frequencies from the fronts when a sub is enabled regardless of the settings.

Advice much appreciated - thanks.

Hi, just going through something similar but I have lab 6000's. Yes, if you go into the menu -> set up -> sound -> speaker groups (select the one you want to adjust if more than one) -> advanced settings -> bass management. In there you can set the crossover frequency, it defaults to 120 Hz, if you lower this number using left small joystick on the remote then this will increase the base from yor 8000's and lower the base from lab2. I have mine set at 80Hz at the moment, it's trial and error really until you find what you are listening for! Don't forget to store setting before you exit. Hope this is what you were asking for.

Hi,

Go to

MENU -> SETUP -> SOUND -> SPEAKER GROUPS -> (your speaker group) -> ADVANCED SETTINGS -> BASS MANAGEMENT -> REDIRECTION LEVELS

Set the value for all loudspeakers to 0 dB

If Bass management is then subsequently turned on, the algorithm will create a two-channel (L/R) LFE signal that will be sent to all loudspeakers (subject to the REDIRECTION BALANCE).

For more a more thorough explanation of this, please see the Technical Sound Guide available from here.

However, please note that, if you send the bass to the 8000's and the 2, you should not necessarily expect more bass out of the combined system due to the relative phase responses of the loudspeakers at the listening position. See Figure 13 on this page for an example of this.

Thanks Geoff! I thought it was down to the redirection levels, but my amateur fumblings with the settings only seemed to result in the sub either being off or on. Now it's much better - to my ears the crossover was sucking a little bit too much low end out of the 8000s.

Nice to have some advice from a fellow Surrey music graduate!

Hi Jon,

Happy to help - but I'm sorry to disappoint you - I've never been to Surrey.

cheers

Haha, ok I don't know where I got that idea into my head. For some reason I thought I'd read that you did the (well renowned) Tonmeister course there. Oops

Is such a Bass Management also available on the latest Beosystem 3?
