Hi

I recently acquired some speakers which are the beovox S45-2 model.  They looked to be in mint condition, however after closer inspection, it seems the woofers do not move on either of the speakers when you press them.

When using them, there is a some tiny sound from the woofers if you put your ear close but its very muted and no bass.  You can also feel it vibrating to the touch when the woofer is out away from the rest of the speaker.

I have a cheapo maplins multimeter and changed it to ohm reading mode (auto ranging) and it read about 3.5 on one of the woofers, will test the other one shortly, does this suggest that the voice coil is not fried?  The woofer has 4 Ohm printed on the underneath of it.

Just wondering if in transit something got dislodged and caused them to jam up.

I've pretty much got them for free now anyway, and I would like to be able to recover the original woofer rather than have to buy a modern driver replacement.

Any advice or tips appreciated!

Cheers,

Jon.

Welcome to Beoworld !

Beovox S45 and S45.2 (type 6302 and 6312) should ALL have their woofer magnets glued to
the metal basket.
They dislodge in transport and it doesn't take more than a setdown on the floor to cause damage.
You can repair them if you are handy. A search on these pages will give you some clues. Otherwise
finding original replacements form a donor will be the only way.

They are wonderful speakers and with yours in excellent optical condition, they would easily be worth it.

Martin

BTW: The glueing of the magnet also applies to other speakers from B&Os range; Beovox P45, P50 and
the portable radio Beolit 500/505/700/707 to name just a few.
