so this is in my opinion nothing special. you can even use another bluetooth kit like a logitech wireless kit or same from belkin.

look here: http://www.blink.com.kw/product-detail/logitech-wireless-speaker-adapter-for-bluetooth-devices-smartphones-tablets-notebooks.html

this is what the kit in the ebay auction does. nothing more and nothing less.

I have tried Belkin bluetooth receivers and I thought the sound was truly awful. Airplay sounds much better. Also Bluetooth is very short range so if you were to leave the room with your bluetooth device (phone?) then the music would stop. Airplay works off wifi so the range is the same as your wifi coverage. Bluetooth 4.0 is apparently much better for music quality I have been told. Not sure how that would compare.

Thanks, any chance you could give me a link to the appropriate airplay device would be great

Years ago - so it seems - I experimented a lot with Bluetooth audio receivers for my audio system.

That stopped immidiately as I discovered the AirPort Express from Apple!

Some Bluetooth receivers are less worse than others Whistle

But the problem is, that if you don't want to go the 'iDevice/AirPlay route', there in't really an alternative to Bluetooth receivers.

My answer to your last question:

http://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/sound/sound-systems/playmaker

If you should go for the AirPort Express and you want to improve the sound quality, you should consider using a small external DAC with it - to avoid the rather poor internal one.

I'm laying in bed streaming music by Bluetooth to my new Bose Soundlink mini. For what it is, it's excellent. And never looses its signal either!

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

If I were the OP, I would buy the PM even though it is being discontinued. It does all that the OP is trying to do with better quality, and if you play your cards right you would get a deal on the PM that is going out. I know I would give a deal if he asked :)

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

I had mine for a few months now and it's really an excellent quality product. Sound is impressive for the size but sometimes a little "boomy". Battery lasts ages.

It's even made in Mexico.

Tonker - what type of bluetooth are you using?

I have no idea i'm afraid. I use a mini iPad, my Nexus 5 and my wives iPhone 5S. Talk about an easy setup.

The battery lasted all of last night, and i streamed Spotify and Tunein radio to it. For it's price and considering it's size, it's easily one of the best purchases i have made in ages. I cannot recommend it enough for a bedroom/kitchen, or for travelling. I listen to a lot of talk radio(LBC/Radio Five Live etc) and it is much less boomy than the A8 or Beolit 12.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Thanks guys, I think i have decided to go with the airport express, does anyone know if i can connect it to the beovision avant 32 RCA audio input instead of the beosound 9000  because (a) I can hide the box and cable behind the tv and  (b) I wont have to buy the DIN adapter for the bs9000 aux input.

just found this one

Advance Acoustic WTX-500

google it and see for your self, it houses the "new" apt-X bluetooth standard with said CD quality

Specifikationer
Kompressionsratio:
4:1
Audioformat:
16-bitars, 44.1 kHz (CD-kvalitet)
Datarate:
352 kbps
Frekvensomfång:
10 Hz - 22 kHz
Algoritmisk fördröjning:
<1.89 ms @ Fs 48 kHz
Dynamiskt omfång:
>92 dB
Signal/Brusförhållande:
THD+N: -68.8 dB
Räckvidd:
ca 10 meter
Dimensioner:

can also mention that I my self use the Logitech Wireless Speaker Adapter since almost two years and find it very nice sounding. Will move on to streaming sometime, but bluetooth is still very convenient.

Sure apt-X is the best if it comes to bluetooth, and bluetooth is "very convenient". (in small rooms)...

...but "Kompressionsratio: 4:1" and 'Datarate 352kpbs" is far from 'said CD quality".
