Hi all.  I'm a newbie and Troglodyte to boot, so please forgive my complete lack of expertise.  We have a Beosound 9000 (about 10 years old) that is showing a "Required Cleaning" message on its digital screen.  The unit works but squeaks noticeably when the laser head moves on its track from CD to CD.   The problem is that we're on an island and transporting (or even shipping) this thing will be a major undertaking.  Is there anything simple the non-handyman can do to address this problem?

Many many thanks.

Remove the CD's and drag a dustcloth thru the channel thru which the CD arm travels.  Dust the two clear plastic 'prongs' attached to the metal on either end.  Clean both sides of the glass.   And it wouldn't hurt to obtain/use a laser lens cleaning CD.  With regard to the squeak, make sure that the two adjustment screws in back are set correctly for the position the player is in (i.e. vertically, horizontally, flat on back).   You'll need to refer to the instruction manual to do this; if you don't have it you can upgrade your BW membership to silver or gold and obtain a full set of manuals (set-up guide, user manual)  onsite.

Good luck & welcome to Beoworld!

Underneath the glass door on both corners there are 2 plastic pins, these are light-sensors in case children's fingers stick through the opening of the door. The cd player will not move then.

It's a safety precaution.

And if these pins collect dust, the cd carriage can act strange thinking the is a finger in the way.

Just wipe the dust off these pins regularly.

Don't ask me how I know...
