Hi i used to have an LG all in one soundbar for watching and listening to movies.

I sold it and have realised i have a pair of beolab 4000's and a beosound 1.

Is it possible to use these in a home cinema set up??

I was thinking of using the beosound 1 as a front channel and the 4000's as rear speakers.

Well these are all powered speakers so i don't need an amp.

I have no idea how i can achive this haha.

I don't even know how these speakers can decode hd formats off blurays...

I have an optoma 3d projector and a playstation 4 for watching blurays.

This is my set up. Any help would be appreciated. I know the beosound 1 only has the aux port..

PS4 has optical out and aux port...

Hi

Ok you have speakers and projector but no amp for decoding audio (db, dts, ...).

If you had a beovision it would be done by it, so you need an amp and you will plug your b&o speakers into the pre out of your amp.

Soundsheavenly sells this kind of cable compatible with beolab.

I have also a beosound 1 I want to use as a beolab.I asked to steve from soundsheavenly recently if he could make a cable aux to powerlink , he answered me it was possible. I am waiting for the price.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

Hi Chris,

in addition to what olvisab already posted...

the center of a 'home cinema setup' is a surround preamp or a surround receiver.

If you buy the receiver, be sure to get one with 'pre-amp' outputs (not all have these).

To connect the BL4000 will not be a problem.

But using the BS1 as frontspeaker won't bring you much joy.

Better use the BL4000 as front - and the BS1 as center channel!

The rears can be added later.

But I doubt that you will be satisfied with using the BS1 in such a setup.

Think about how much remote-controlling you will have to do, when you want to watch a movie.

Turn on the tv, turn on the PS4, turn on the receiver, turn on the BS1 and finally adjudge the sound levels of all!

If your projector has an analog sound/stereo output, you could use the BL4000 as fronts and skip the rest untill later/when you want to invest more.

The same goes for a setup with a surround preamp/receiver.

It will be a much easier setup, and the BL4000 surely would surely lift up your sound.

Thanks for the help !! Wow i see the beosound 1 isn't appreciated very much as a speaker.

But that is what it is..a portable speaker. It's better than a beolab 4 in my opinion.

Can anybody tell me any specific preamps that could work in this set up??brands???

Maybe i should just get another pair of beolab 4000's they are all over ebay..

Hi

If you use only one pair of speakers you will habe the sound but not the real 5.1 sound.

The interest of the preamp is to decode and dispatch each channel to the good speakers.

But yes, you should be able to use the bl4000, unless Millemissen tells you the contrary.

In this case, forget what I told you.

Hi Chris,

you have written that your projector is an Optoma 3D.

These have an audio-out - it will be stereo and is feed through the HDMI connection from your PS4.

The BL4000's can be connected to this via an adapter.

I don't suppose that the PS4 has any analog (stereo) outputs - so you can't use that.

You would - depending on the quality of the audio output of the Optoma - have good stereo sound for a start.

But concidering you have a PS4 and an Optoma projector, you really should invest some money on the sound side!!

The decoding is not the problem - the PS4 can be set to decode to PCM sound (just as a modern surround receiver can) - but you will still need some kind of sound processor to handle the sound, especially if you want  'a cinema setup' with surround sound.

Best thing is to get a multichannel preamp - or a mulitichannel receiver (with pre-out connections for powered speakers).

A receiver is basically a preamp wit amplifiers built-in - but mostly receivers have other additional features.

The receiver would give you the possibility to connect your BL4000 as fronts and use some passive speakers as center and rears....untill you can upgrade to another set of active (BeoLab 4000 as rears...) speakers.

And you will have less fiddling with remote controls!

Depending on which receiver you would buy, you have other sources e.g. AirPlay, Netflix, internet radio station... too.

Please google for receivers in your area - I can't pick out a specitic one from here. (Maybe someone else can).

If you find something interesting - feel free to write again for further 'help'.

P.S.

I am sure you will find a place to use the BS1 as well - it is actually a quite nice sounding device.
