Have been searching through the forum archive to find out the exact differences between the BV7-55 models to no avail. Can anybody shed some light please?

1. Is the video processing engine (BS3 I assume) the same or better in later models?

2. Is there a noticeable difference in picture quality between the models?

3. Aside from Mark 1 sets being 2D and Mark 2 sets being 3D, is everything else the same?

4. To my knowledge there are only two versions, Mark 1 and Mark 2, so why am I seeing Mark 3 sets being sold on eBay? Do these actually exist or is this is a listing mistake?

I am seriously considering purchasing a Mark 1 so would like to have the precise facts to hand beforehand, this is why I am asking.

All help greatly appreciated.

With thanks,
Simon.

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

There was no Mk3. Mk2 had a better picture and a better and faster BluRay player. Not sure about BS3 though.

The Mk2 is still the best TV on the planet, when you add up its component parts.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your prompt response. Would you say there is a noticeable difference in picture quality between the two sets? I appreciate you say the Mk 2 is better but I need more detailed info (if possible) on 'how much better' it is and whether or not I am really going to notice anything at the end of the day. The set I have my eye on is a Mk 1, not a Mk 2, but I am happy to leave it altogether if the Mk 1 isn't really worth it etc. Thanks again.

I'm not sure if the Mk1 had the local dimming of the 2. Folk that own the 2 say the picture is noticeably better. The BluRay player on the 1 was very slow apparently.

MK1 has local dimming. Flatpanelshd even has a nice video that shows the local dimming function in demo mode.

In non 3D movies, difference in picture quality between Mk1 and Mk2 in my view is marginal.

Anyway, probably one of the best pieces of B&O equipment and with more than 75 kg a sturdy build.

Thanks for your response pf85. In the first paragraph of the FlatpanelsHD link you sent, the author writes,

"...In addition, the BeoVision 7-55 boasts scanning backlight and 100 Hz, which is expected to improve the reproduction of fast sports and action scenes."

The 100 Hz he talks of, is this the refresh rate? If so, I believe the Mk 2 version is 200 Hz and I would suspect there is a significant difference in picture quality between the two. What are your thoughts?

Thanks again.

Simon,

I am very pleased with my Mk1 with external bluray player.  When Mk2 came out, I did a viewing test at the dealership and sourced with a good HD signal, we could not make out a big difference in picture quality between the two even though refresh rate is different.

I have not experienced any issues when I watch speed sports or soccer, with our viewing distance of 3m it is just gorgeous. Bluray movies are stunning as well...

However, as both Mk1 and Mk2 are out of the market today, i would look for one that suits you in picture and possibly in screen age. You can check this with the service counter menu on both Mk1 or Mk2.

Both have the same BS3 engine. I would not hesitate to purchase a used one. In a second room I have a 7-40 bought used... No regrets.

You make a good choice.

Thanks again Peter.

I have just been reading up more on the official B&O site under the Product Specification menu but all the info relates to the Mark 2 version only. The two questions I am really trying to find answers for are; does the Mark 1 have these 512 back lighting zones for local dimming or is that Mark 2 only? Secondly, I have heard from dealers that there were known issues with the DVD mechanism breaking - these were apparently fixed on the Mark 2. Have you experienced this at all on yours? Actually there is a third question! I have since found one more thread about the BV7-55 here in the archives and it seems some owners claimed there were problems with the 7-6 speaker not sounding great? This I find very difficult to believe!!! Just wondered if any of these points ring true for you as a Mark 1 owner?

Simon, cannot be too specific but I try.

Mk 1 has local dimming zones (around 50?) but as far as I know, less than the 512 on Mk2, ie a less detailed pattern - but as Flatpanel attestates, still with a stunning picture.

As I purchased the BV 7-55 with a longterm view in mind, I opted for the one without integrated Bluray Player. On my BV 7-40 - more than 7 yrs old, the DVD mechanism has not failed ever.

I also opted for the 7-4 center speaker and connected BL1 and BL3 in a surround setup.

Therefore i cannot speak for 7-6. However, with BS3 integrated you can calibrate quite a nice surround system.  I have never heard of underperforming 7-2 or 7-6.

Thanks peter. I sent you an email too. Hopefully you got it.

What do fellow B&O enthusiasts think a Mark 1 7-55 is realistically worth these days? (Private sale from trusted seller, average counter stats for a 3 year old set, mint condition, motorised stand, 7-6 and latest Beo 4 remote).

I have narrowed it down to this route, or wait until May/June to see if anything surprises me then.

Cheers,
Simon.
