I have a synology NAS running minimserver as upnp server. My beosound 5 encore recognizes the server, but when I select it it briefly starts indexing but then stops leaving the database empty.
this also happens to other upnp servers I'm running on the NAS (serviio, plex), the only server the beosound recognizes is the default mediasever used on synology products.
Since I have some unresolvable problems withe the default synology upnp server and I really like the minimserver for it's tagging / browse options I'm curious how to make it work with the beosound 5 encore.. Could it be related to the port that's being used? And how to solve this issue?
thanks in advance..
Can you 'see' the minim on another device/player - and use it there?

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Hi Millemissen, thanks for your reply!
Other upnp renderers / clients can see the minimserver just fine and allow me to stream media from it.
It's just the BS5E that does show the server in it's list but after connecting to it it isn't indexing nor does it allow me to play files.
i'm curious wheter or not it's an issue withe the ports on my netgear nighthawk router (which is unlikely since other devices have no problems connectonge)
Gonna try portforwarding all needed port instead of allowing the upnp option in the router to take care of it.
I also don’t believe portforwaring is an issue here. Maybe this is not possible at all, as your MinimServer and BS5e must talk the same language. Not sure if the BS5e uses a proprietary protocol. Have you tried to install Minimserver on your PC or Mac and go from there?
The BS5E does not use a proprietary protocol - it is supposed to act like a any other DLNA compatible renderer/player.
Defart: in which format are your files?
The minimserver can be set/is set to transcode to WAW on the fly - that might be a problem for the Encore?
How big are the pics embedded in the files?

Agree
If the router is set to control upnp than it should work. To my opinion miniserver doesn´t fulfill the upnp-dlna protocols
No sense in blaming it on the Miinserver.
No (NO!) UPnP/DLNA 'compatible' software or device has ever fullfilled the prototols of UPnP/DLNA.
They are either insufficient implemented or you have a combination where different things are or aren't implemented the same way - or not at all.
The specifications for UPnP/DLNA simply are too vague, too much is left over for the implementing companies to decide. All too broad and flexible.
Often you see very badly implemented DLNA, even if the logo is on the product - made in a rush.
No wonder that Apple took another approach - happily we now have a 'play-to' feature, that works (AirPlay).
At the time as Logitech did not only care for mainstream products and made their 'Squeezebox'es', they decided for a propritary server solution - the Slimserver, which later became the Logitech Media Server.
Or that Sonos created their own protocols....
These things work - but you are limited in your choice of hardware, of cource.
B&O went the Windows-way long ago - beginning with the BeoPlayer and the BeoPort. The MediaPlayer in the NL-tv's are made of the same stuff.
You will always run into trouble, if you try to combine DLNA solutions from different brands!!!
B&O usually recommend the Twonky Server, having tested their gear with it.
But there are different Twonky versions and even Twonky sometimes is poorly implemented in NAS devices.
I would suggest trying JRiver - originally a Windows application - there is a Mac version of it too.
Using a DLNA server always mean 'playing' with the settings (and maybe deciding to use a different one)....
....unless you are lucky to find, that the one you picked, works perfectly with your device
Greetings Millemissen
Thanks for all your replies.
I doubt it's related to minimserver not fullfilling the upnp protocols, mainly because other clients connect to the server without problems, but also since the Beolab doesn't connect to Plex (upnp server) and serviio (upnp server) as well.
I want to have a upnp server on my synology intel/atom NAS, so I don't want to have a running PC/MAC to be capable of streaming my music files.
So far I haven't found a twonky for my NAS (maybe I didn't search long enough).
I will try to play with the settings a bit and will try to find a twonky version that does install on my NAS..
Thanks for the input!
Greetings, Daf

My NAS is a x86-64 atom linux system, it uses libc 2.3 whick is too old for the twonky builds posted there.. Updating libc will very likely break my system :(
cheers, Daf
After a new update (DSM 5) for Synology I am able to install twonky and the beosound 5 encore works perfecty with this DLNA server.
So there are some servers that do work (synology built in media server, twonky) and some that don't work (minimserver, plex, serviio)
I'm not sure it that's related to the client or the server.. But let's hope upnp devices will indeed become "universal" in the future.
Cheers, daf
