I bought a set of old Beolab 6000s that are in serious need of refurbishment, but are in otherwise excellent cosmetic condition. I ordered new drivers (cones were ripped), and I want to recap the amp as well while I am at it. Does anyone have any idea how to get the amp out of the speaker?? I have unscrewed all the screws I can find, and I have pulled on it just like you do with the drivers to get it out, but it seems stuck...
On another note: Does anyone know where you can buy new frets for these other than through B&O (new or used is fine)? They don't have frets, and I was trying to avoid paying the huge $ that a dealer will charge for something that can't cost that much to make.
Correct, it is stuck...............to the sealing strip that was applied down the sides of the Al tube when they were first fitted.
A little leverage is required to break the seal!
Personal opinion........the recap will be a waste of time and effort. Leave well alone!

I was hoping to do this as practice before I do a recap on my Pentas, which I have heard is worthwhile... Not necessarily to improve the 6000s (although I would assume they will benefit slightly from this).
They are completely different animals.
The Pentas are ordinary passive speakers (with crossover components which deteriorate with time) with an amplifier bolted on the bottom. ie amplified speakers.
The Beolab 6000's are a much more modern design altogether with electronic crossover components as part of the amplifiers. They are also a different generation agewise.
A recap of the Penta crossovers will have a positive effect while recap of the 6000's will have you scratching your head looking for them!
However............they are your speakers!
After looking into it a bit more, you're probably right. I bought the 6000s to flip/pay for my penta project. I likely wont bother with caps on the 6000s. Now the real question is where to get replacement frets for cheap...

Dutch member Leslie is adept at re-covering them if you have the metalwork.
Unfortunately I do not have the metal bit either. I need the whole deal... I appreciate the suggestion though. I will keep him in mind should I experience particularly tough recover.
Beo4 'til I die!
Elms, perhaps you might want to ask Darren of timeless-av ? They do frets recovering and perhaps they have both, the metal parts and the cloths.
