Hi,

Today I attempted to set up my much awaited Beolab 2 with my Beovison 3 TV. Unfortunately it looks like the subwoofer output on the Dolby card is not functioning. I had the TV fitted with the Dolby card not long after purchasing it back in 2002 and have only ever used the 4 speaker outputs. I purchased a Beolab 2 last week from the new Outlet store in Liverpool and went to set it all up today with no success. Has anyone any experience with these Dolby cards going faulty? We have ruled out cables, speakers, software etc but still no output from the subwoofer socket. I am going to remove the back off the TV to have a look at the PCB's and see if there is any obvious, dry joint etc. The sub's LED switches when I power the TV on / off but no signal is being sent to it. Anyone any idea where I could get one of these Dolby output cards, I guess they are quite hard to come by now. A new TV would be nice but a 2 year old home wrecker prevents the possibility of this.

Thanks

Mike

Make sure you sent data/sound to the sub....

Use a dvd with 5.1 sound, digital connection using the extra inputs of the tv...

most of the times, the sub is not used, only when godzilla comes in or a helicopter is landing, for example :-)))

Just to make sure.

Ralf

Hi Mike,

not long ago I set up a BL2 (and fronts/rears) on a BV3.

There should be no problem at all in that.

I suppose you have choosen the right output (the subwoofer connection) at the back of the BV3 - it is the one in between the rear/front connections.

Have you activated the sub in the Sound menu/Speaker Type?

The sub will be active in every speakers constallation (except for Speaker1).

Don't forget to set 'Speakers Distance' and 'Speakers Distance' according to your setup/room.

Did you make the settings on the subwoofer according to the userguide?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I completed everything you listed and as some tests I plugged a Lab8 into the subwoofer output - no sound and then plugged the subwoofer into the lab 8 output - sound present so the sub itself and cable are OK. The Dolby sound card is the one with 5 speaker options and 2 phono sockets next to them, the centre one is labelled subwoofer as you state. There is no setting for speaker distance and level for subwoofer as I think it does not matter where the sub is. I have tried the switches the sub between 1 - 3 on the power and centre, wall or corner, all to no avail. It really is strange that this has happened as the other 4 speakers, 2x lab 8 + 2x lab 6 are all working as expected.

Regards

Mike

Hi Mike,

Are you certain you have told the TV there is a BL2 connected to subwoofer output in the 'Speaker Type' menu as suggested above by MM?

Without doing this there would be no output and no subwoofer level/distance settings as the TV is unaware there is a subwoofer connected.

It may be that the menus are different on the BV3, but this is how it works on my BV7 and I'm also pretty sure this is how it is set up on my Avant (but can't check this at present as the Tube needs replacing)

Martin.

The settings are explained in the Referencebook (Page 4) - you can find on the B&O site.

Yes guys, I have checked the settings, I guess it is a faulty output on the card.....gutted as these cards are nowhere to be found, if anybody hears of an BV3 or 32Avant being scrapped please let me know

So I eventually managed to find another dss card, swapped out with my faulty one and no change, exactly the same beolab 2 switches on and off with the TV or CD player but does not output any bass. Tested the lab2 in the B&O shop in Liverpool, works perfectly. I guess there is something weeks broken in my TV, could be software,  I dunno I give up....

Mike, did you get my voicemail message?

We still have your BeoLab2 at the store. Give me a call on Saturday and I will arrange an appointment to deliver it back to you. I'll have a look at the set up and see if anything has been overlooked.

Don't give up. We'll get to the bottom of it.

Regards

Nick

Hi Nick,

Cheers for all the help, let me know when you can drop the Lab 2 off. If you can bring a Beovision 7 with you that would be really helpful as well....Yes - thumbs up

Mike
