Please forgive my ignorance here for what probably seems very logical to the rest of the world. In the U.S. we don't have SCART connections and have not had B&O VCRs available in the U.S. market.
I recently acquired a BeoCord V8000 that I would like to connect to my BeoVision 10-40. I really just want this to play back old VHS tapes with the seamless B&O control. This would seem to work since the BeoCord V8000 can playback NTSC tapes in addition to PAL. I have no need to use the tuner on the vcr. I haven't been able to find the "Seting-Up Guide" for the BeoCord V8000 anywhere on the internet. I've only been able to find the User Guide.
How do I connect this to my BeoVision 10-40? Does it matter whether I use the AV1, AV2, or AV4 Scart connection on the back of the BeoVision 10?
On the back of the BeoCord V8000 there are two scart connections labeled "AV" and "V-Tape Decoder." Is the "AV" connection the correct one to use to connect to the BeoVision?"
What is a V-Tape Decoder? Is that similar to a decoder box used by a cable company to decode the scrambled signals? Can anything else be connected to the "V-Tape Decoder" socket on the BeoCord -- such as an HDR2?
Finally, can I use any 21-pin Scart cable or does B&O have a special proprietary cable?
Many thanks for helping someone in the U.S. who is unfamiliar with scart!
Hi Jeff,
Firstly the manuals for set-up are all available on this site if you upgrade your membership! In the meantime, to assist:
- You should be able to use any of the BV10's SCART connections as long as you then go to the BV10 connections menu and let it know that the chosen connection is 'V.MEM'.
- The correct SCART on the Beocord is the one labeled 'AV'.
- The V.TAPE decoder socket on the V8000 enables you to connect a decoder or Set Top Box so that you can either record or watch programs that have to be 'decoded'. If set up like this, you would chose 'V.MEM + STB' in the BV10's connections menu. You should not connect HDR2 here.
- Make sure that the SCART cable that you use is fully wired (i.e all 21 pins connected) to ensure that the B&O 'control' signals are passed from the BV10 to the V8000.
I hope this helps!
Guy
Many thanks. My scart cable arrived from the u.k. today and I was able to connect the BeoCord to the BeoVision with perfect control.
Something that I noticed, however, is that ntsc tapes played with pretty poor quality. There was a "darker" rectangle at about the bottom third of the screen and there were nuances of light and dark. I tried playing video tapes recorded at various speeds and even commercial movie tapes. All with the same results. When I played a PAL tape on the VCR, though, there was not the video distortion at all. This light and dark effect reminded me of what I often notice in movies (played on an ntsc tv) of european television screens in the backgrounds of movies. Could this be due to the difference of frame rate? Do people in Europe experience this distortion when they play back ntsc video tapes on a European tv that is "capable" of playing back ntsc video in addition to PAL?
I am glad it works!
I have never tried an NTSC tape, but I will get hold of some in the next few days, give it a try and let you know!
Hi again,
I just tried a couple of NTSC tapes and the picture quality was fine. Mind you, I was watching on a BV6-23 but the quality is the same as I get on my other PAL tapes.
Perhaps it needs a clean or the head re-aligning. I don't know much about VHS players but I presume this could explain the difference in performance between the two tapes types.
