Hi all, I currently have in our living room a set BL5 and a set of BL3's connected to a BV-10, i.e. that 40" TV is the "control centre".

We are considering to move the BV-10 to the bedroom and get for the living room a 65" or so smart TV (non-B&O, e.g. Samsung).

What would be the be best way to connect all this assuring both good sound quality & control -ideally also for movies- and ease of operation using the Beo4.

I still have a BeoSound 3000 (which now is just an input to the BV-10), but not sure if that's really what I want to do...Is buying a (used) Beosystem 2 or 3 a smart thing to get most out of both the BL5 and BL3's and the Samsung smart TV ?

all suggestions/comments welcome!

You would need some kind of surround receiver with line out connections.

And a lot of patience controlling your setup!

To make things easier you might use a Lintronic box (for converting ir-signals etc) or a well programmed Beo5/6.

I think the OPPO 103 BluRay is the best balance of quality and price for driving a set of B&O speakers with a 3rd party screen.  It even has sync control if you have an odd duck processing delay.  That plus a Harmony remote is less than $600 US and you can buy them both on Amazon. No dealing with real people!

You're going to need a pretty amazing centre channel speaker to keep up with your beolab 5's. How much were you thinking of spending on a samsung?

Bearing in mind you'll need a tv, a surround sound receiver, a centre channel speaker, plus an amplifier to drive it, a Blu Ray player if you don't have one already - and you still won't have the style and ease of operation of a B&O (one remote control etc) not to mention the picture quality - it all adds up to making BeoVision TV's a good financial choice!!

How about a BV7-40 'MK as new as possible', and a projector...

...and a screen as big as can be.

and of course the cable rca///trigger to powerlink converter cable

I have a pionner TV, denon amplifier 2 BL8000 front and 2 bl6000 rear and it's work fine.

but i dont use beo4 remote.

eBay in the US has beolab 7 in its various forms on a regular basis.

You'll need a beolab 7 or beolab 10 to keep up with those.

That was my setup for the last 4 years.

Recently upgrades the rears to lab 9s.

I use a 7.4 in the center.

It is a GREAT TIME to pick up a bsys3 and 65' right now. Dealers are closing them out for the new screen that is otw.

Go for the B&O. You'll never regret that.

Or, if it's a theater type room get a projector and sys3 based tv

With such an amazing speaker setup, definitely a bsys3 or 4, and let the non-B&O screen act as a monitor only. BL7 as a center should come very cheap nowadays with people ditching their old 7-40's. Big advantage is you don't need to turn the screen on to access audio sources.

Thanks to all who replied ! Seems buying a used Beosystem 3 along with a Samsung is a reasonable compromise, although indeed I do see the point that a B&O TV is more than a TV and  less expensive than it looks at first sight. BUT......

I dropped by in a B&O store in Germany and the knowledgeable salesman said I probably want a bit of patience since:

a) later this year there will be a replacement for the BV 12 (dropping plasma) in a 75 and 85" version and

b) in "a few weeks" a very affordable new "glassy" TV up to 55" which will be given the name AVANT...

I'm in the same situation except I don't have a b&o tv, nor I I intend to drop over $20 for a TV...and I still appreciate my Kuro 50"(last generation).

I have a pre-pro Denon a1hd and I went to a B&O store inquiring whether they could program a beo6 to control non b&o devices along bl5 + bl3 (I don't intend to get a center channel speaker.

Do you guys confirm that it's not possible to program a beo6 for non B&o devices?

I have been emailing with Lintronic but I really don't understand the installation process. I wish there were installers in USA...

Have a look at the beo5/6 section of the forum.

Third party control is possible. Just requires some tinkering.

Lots of people talk about the lintronic. Frankly, I've found it easier to control my 3rd party panels by plaving the hex codes in the beo5/6 programming. Keith is a whiz at converting things should you need that done. The lintronic is just another box to put somewhere!!!!

Thanks again for your suggestion. The beo6 would indeed be my first choice. As I said earlier, b&o rep told me that it cannot operate an non-b&o environment and so I'm still wondering...

Now, I'm not informed about these hex codes and I have no time to research/learn the techniques. I would prefer to hire an installer and be done with it.

By the way, who's Keith?

Keith Saunders. I believe he's the resident tech guru.

Beo6 programming is pretty simple.

Where are you located?

Not sure there are many programmers in the US.

I think Washington DC has a guy that will do it.

Tyson's store. Ask for Aaron.

Otherwise you can get the software and give it a go.

Pretty easy really

mjmedlo, thank you so much. Regarding the software you've mentioned...do you mean Lintronic or beo6 software?

An alternative solution to connect Beolabs to a non B&0 tv (wireless):

Beolab Transmitter 1 & 4 times Beolab Receiver 1.

You'll want a BeoSystem. I have spent a lot of money on a top of the range Onkyo non-B&O amplifier with the same setup as yourself, and I am not happy with the results. It sounds good, don't get me wrong. But not the best. And especially for the BL5's, I want the best.

I almost pulled the trigger on the new BeoSystem 4, but my dealer spoke to the powers above, and I was advised to wait a few months for a "4K" version of the BeoSystem 4. So that is exactly what I am doing :)

As I have seen with the new B&O TV's, instead of integrating the BeoSystem in to the TV sets, they have created a seperate unit (BeoSys 4). So a 4K B&O TV needs a 4K BeoSystem right!? :)

Now I wait.

From what I have read the beosystem is mostly focused on video, and I don't see Dts-hd master audio or true-hd Dolby listed among the codecs processed by beosystem.

It supports LPCM though. So just get your device to pass LPCM to the BSys4 for the DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD streams (which I only have a couple of blu rays with such streams) and it will work.

Who knows maybe the new BSys (if/when it comes) will support such DTS-HD / DD TrueHD decoding on the device itself.

I was referring to the beo6 software.

I dl'd the lintronic software and I found it cumbersome.

Beo6 is a pain too, but easier.

Good luck. Glad to help if I can
