Hi guys my first post as a now proud owner of an older tv. Just received a free Avant thanks to a very generous donor using Freecycle and as I'm a pleb (full stop) getting it set up to show the freeview channels is at this moment beyond me. I have dvd's playing fine but when I switch to the TV button on the HDD the tv says 'no signal'.

I have a scart going from the bottom scart socket on the dvd/hdd (line 3-TV) to the middle scart at the back of the Avant (AV). Aerial connected to the freeview HDD and I also connected one to the Avant but no joy. Any ideas where I'm going wrong? BTW, the sound played back via dvd is awesome considering no extra speakers attached. Cheers, michael

First post as well here, but have the same Avant. Did you go into the menu-settings and configure the connection on your SCART connector? Otherwise I don't think the Avant knows which button on the remote to associate with the video source.

Hi Michael and welcome to Beoworld (to you too, bkmore),

the tv-tuner in the Avant is an old analog one - I guess in London there aren't any analog tv signals anymore. So connecting an arial to the Avant and pushing the 'TV' button won't help you.

Did I understand it right? Playing DVD's was done from the internal DVD? If yes, be happy you have got a nice Avant for free - not all had the built-in DVD.

Watching television though, will have to be done from an external device (your Freview....).

As bkmore wrote, you will have to go into the menu of the Avant - use the Beo4 to navigate...if you have got one Unsure

In the sockets menu you will have to assign a Beo4-button to the scart-socket, you have choosen. Note - there are further 'buttons' hidden in the 'List'. Please ask again, if that is a problem.

!!You won't be able to use the 'TV'-button (or rhe one behind the display at the top) anymore!!

And of cource you will have to use the remote of the 'Freview' to navigate that device - the Avant is just 'showing the picture'.

Hope you enjoy the excelent sound of the Avant - sometimes I miss mine Stick out tongue

Greetings Millemissen

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Take a look at the STB list in the Avant. Depending on the year of manufacture there's a good chance there is a skybox link for satellite and a Panasonic Freeview box. You will have to find the Freeview box on the secondhand market.

You can control these boxes with your Beo4 with an IR blaster link.

Search the archived forum for more Avant information, or upgrade membership for access to the manuals.
