Hi, As some might remember, I got my hands on one of the rare Beosound 2300 DAB versions, it was dusty and the cd didn't work.
I ordered a new laser like this one
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-VAM1204-CDM12-4-CDM-12-4-Laser-Lens-optical-pickup-replace-VAM1205-/281216085852?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item4179c8ef5c
And the cd came back to life... Now I have noticed that when the unit has been playing for a while, and gets warm.. It gets more sensitive towards scratched cd's ...
I also have testet an original 2300 vs my DAB 2300, both from cold state, and the original one is better at handling scratched cd's. I've got a Depeche Mode cd where track 6 can be played without problem in the Orig 2300, but will not play in my DAB version with eBay laser..
Are these lasers of lesser quality, or is there something with the CD board in my 2300DAB with bad capasitors that might need changing ?
Thanks for any help :)
I don't know, but the original Philips mech will gladly play really bad CDs and CDRs.

I bought a BC4000 with a dead 12.4 laser. Like you I changed the module but found its reading capabilities less than satisfactory. It works but is picky especially with burned CDs.
Its the only 12.4 unit I have so there is no basis for comparison.
I have several CD players that use the Philips CDM4 (radial arm) and have found that this pickup will read everything.
My Beogram CDX will even read CDRWs!

Ok, I guess that these "not original" lasers are not as forgiving as the originals... I am just wondering why it is getting worse when it get's hot? The cd I have tried with is an original, and yes, it has scratches, there is no issue what so ever with "good" cd's
