Hi, This is my first post on this site.

I've just obtain a really lovely BG6002 and its in fabulous condition. Its had all its capacitors changed, lubricated and a new MMC4 from Axel in Germany. Its connected to my Beomaster 1900 and the sound is truly stunning. I've compared directly to MPS recordings of the same material and I have to say, the BG6002 does sound marginally better....so what's wrong I hear you say.

Well maybe nothing, but I'm hoping someone can help and advise me on the tonearm. I'll try and describe: When its parked up it sits exactly parallel to the detector arm when looking down at them both. (I would say that the detector arm is very slightly out of square to the deck itself, it running very slightly in towards the turntable).   When it plays, the tone arm drops into groove and then runs out to the left (towards the direction of play) just a little, making the tonearm no longer parallel to the detector arm. I'd say about 1.5mm out from true parallel.

The turntable cues the arm perfectly to the start of records, 33 and 45's plays perfectly, and, runs out to the label edge then lifting off and going back to park - perfectly every time. If I use the cuing controls, the arm when lifting of jumps backwards a bit (after its out of the groove) and sits parallel again to the detector arm. I then cue to position and it drops down perfectly plumb onto the disc, but will then run out a bit again, as the grooves take the stylus away, then the tonearm seems to keep up perfectly again and plays the whole disc fine.

If I just pause a track, the tonearm lifts off (moving backwards with a slight but sudden jump, as the groove has released it) and if I press play, it resumes play about 1mm of disc earlier than when it lifted off (as its moved back the distance to being parallel with the detector arm).

so what should I think? should I be concerned that its putting sideways stress on the cantilever when its playing (as that's what i'm assuming will be happening) and if so,  should I and can I adjust the arm so it lifts off and up perfectly plumb when coming out of a groove and drop back down in exactly the same spot?

Thanks in anticipation of any help.

Nick
