After I caught the Bang & Olufsen restoration bug a couple of years ago (maybe three), I wanted to collect complete systems, including the nice rosewood cabinets I remember seeing at the dealer stores. The first one I was able to find and get was an SC80 cabinet for my 8000 system. I posted a couple of pictures of it on my Beomaster 8000 repair thread. Early this year I finally found an SC60 cabinet. That cabinet is designed for the Beomaster 6000 but really can be used for other things as its top is flat. The SC80 cabinet top is pretty much designed around the Beomaster 8000 and Beocord 800x/9000 shape. The SC60 cabinet I found came with several components, all needing restoration. There was a Beomaster 6000, a Beocord 8004 and a Beogram 8002 (with two MMC1 cartridges). I plan to get that system restored soon. First though, I needed to put the SC60 cabinet together. It came to me completely disassembled for ease of shipping. As I opened it up I discovered there were some nasty scratches in the Rosewood veneer that needed fixing. Here is the cabinet in its restored state.
Here is a picture of the top of the SC60 with the nastiest scratches. The picture is as I was just beginning to sand on the top.
I spent quite a bit of time sanding and could see that I probably wouldn't completely sand out the bad scratches.
I used some techniques Søren (Mexico) instructed me on - I used some wet material (Q-tip stems soaked in warm water) along with a hot iron (borrowed from my wife) to iron out dents in the Rosewood caused by the scratches. That improved the wood finish quite a bit. I masked off areas around the scratches with painters tape to limit the water that touches the surface. After that treatment I did some additional sanding, then cleaned the surface with mineral spirits. Next I applied some oil based wood pore filler. It is designed to mix with finish like boiled linseed oil but for the first step I just used it straight. That really smoothed out and helped to hide the scratches. I did one more light sanding then applied boiled linseed oil mixed half and half with the wood pore filler again.
Here is the result.
Here is a better picture of the completed SC60 restoration. I like the simple but functional design of this cabinet.
A wonderful end result!

I have done something similar with dented gun stocks (usually made of walnut). A steaming hot cloth typically removes small dents, or even turns them into bumps you have to sand down to get a level surface. Allow good time to cool down and dry before judging the result.

Very good result !Patience pays off !

Amazing
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
WOW! Great job!
Here is the SC60 in white with Beosystem 6000. A rare sight indeed. Serviced by Dillen and also helped me getting the stand home back in december 2008.
Did it come with this?
Nice. I notice the light over the turntable bay is along the side with the metal divider. I wasn't sure where it went and mine had screw holes to mount it in the center over the turntable. I think I might move mine to the location you have yours.
I never thought about what place for the light was the right place either but it seems to be the best spot on the side and mine has always been like that. It gives enough light for the Beogram and easy reach for the button + the wire can go to the top right corner along with the cables from the system.
The SC60 manual does say the same.
There should be holes for it in the middle of the top side for mounting the light there.
Yes, they are there. I am going to move mine. A previous owner must have relocated the light to the middle of the bay where it is now.
Beauty. But 2 MMC1s? Holy crap?!?!
Yes, it was great getting those cartridges. I tested them - they do track and play at 1gram but both cantilevers are not perfectly straight. They have the typical slight lean to one side so I expect I will need to have their suspension repaired. I don't plan on using them until I save up enough for the suspension repair. I am still waiting to get back an MMC1 suspension repair from SoundSmith. They have a 12 week backlog so I am expected to get that first repair in the first or second week of August. I decided to try them for the first time as I have already used Axel twice and Benny once. The repairs by Axel and Benny were both good so I am anxious to see how the SoundSmith repair looks in comparison.
Well, if you want to sell one, PM me.
As far as rebuilds go, my MMC3000 rebuild from Soundsmith is my favorite cartridge. Pity I don't use it as often as some of my other cartridges. Bummer about the 12 week backlog, though. I think Peter only had mine for 6. But it's also good news for us in the States - Peter should be in business for years to come.
Very nice looking cabinet - Congratulations! After years of searching I was able to buy an SC80-2 cabinet to complete my Beolab 8000 System. Unfortunately on my cabinet the original vertical dividers as well as the shelf board on the right hand side are missing and I do not know their exact measurements. Could you please send me the measurements of the vertical dividers and the shelf board including the thikness of the material in mm? Are they made from aluminium or from steel? If you could also send me the measurements and some close up pictures of the connectors which connect the shelf board to the right vertical divider that would be great. Thank you very much in advance!
Could you post some pictures of your SC80 cabinet so we can see what is missing?

Here is a picture of the SC80 parts from the service manual. Which pieces are missing from yours?
Thank you very much for your early reply! Attached you can find a picture of my cabinet. Most of the sheet metal parts were missing or have been replaced by reproductions. The two vertical dividers which can be seen on the picture below are non original reproductions which are far too long. It seems as if there was a cable channel or something similar on the underside of the cabinet as well. At least there were two screws at the bottom with a distance of 320mm between them. Do you also have some information about this part? Thank you so much for your help!
To make it a little clearer, which measurements I need I have marked the parts on one of your pictures. For A I need to know the exact dimensions and the positions of the holes. For B I need to know the dimensions and it would be very helpfuld to me if you could post some pictures of the two pieces which connect B to A. Preferrably including the measurements (Diameter, length, depth of the gap and diameters of the screwholes).
Guys, you are talking about two different cabinets.Florians is the SC80-2
Great, that already helps a lot! I need the measurements of the parts with the Numbers 0011, 0012, 0013 and 0020. Thanks for the drawing!
Hi Florian.
A is 30,5cm. x 31cm and 3mm thick.
B is 30,5cm x 20cm and 3 mm thick and the 2 holes is in the middle 15,5cm and 5cm from the edge.
Henrik
Hi Henrik
Thank you so much for the measurements, you helped me a lot. Could you please send me the measurements of part 0013 too? I took one of your pictures to mark the measurements I need to get them remachined. Does your cabinet also have part 0013 on the underside of the cabinet? If so, could you please send me the measurements of this part too?
A is 1cm. B is 1cm. and c is 1,2cm.
Part nr. 013 is 50cm. long
The side with the holes is 4cm.
the highest side is 7cm. high
and a side there is 6,2cm. high
and a side there is 2,5cm
Hi HenrikThank you so much for your efforts! You cannot imagine how much you helped me. As soon as the parts are finished I will post some pictures and I hope that I will be able to do you an equal favour in the future.
Do you have this cover (number 005)
I have a spare that i did needed,if you want it i could send it to you.
I did NOT needed it .
Besides the lamp this was the only sheet metal part which was not missing on my cabinet. However it clearly needs a repaint.
Dillen: Guys, you are talking about two different cabinets.Florians is the SC80-2 Martin
Ah, I see now Martin. I was puzzled why he had posted his question about the SC80-2 under my SC60 thread but it makes sense now. I didn't realize there was a bigger, SC80-2 version of the SC60. Now I want to get one of those for my collection.
Hey mate,
Sorry for bumping your thread although great work! I have came across the same cabinet but its missing the dividers in the middle as well as all the screws. Do you know the exact screw type to attach the boards to the legs? and do you know if there are reproduction dividers (not sure what material they are)>
Cheers!
Hi,
I don't know what type of screws they are other than the B&O service manual identifies them as B&O part number 2084006. I can remove one and photograph it later. The dividers are steel.
That would be great thankyou, not sure id have much luck trying to get the exact bang olufsen screws.
any luck getting the picture of the screw? Not had any luck getting spares myself so will just try and mimic the original as best i can.
Here you go
They are melamine screws and look like they are very similar to these.
Amazon carries some as well...and in smaller quantities :-).
