Hi, I'm trying to convert/salvage a broken tonearm to take a P-mount cartridge. I know it's kind of a travesty to do this, but I have no choice. I want to enjoy my TT until I find a replacement arm.

I know that aminaaudio.com does it, but it's very expensive and looks relatively easy to do.

Has anyone been able to do this conversion?

I ordered a T4P adapter (http://www.needledoctor.com/Ortofon-T4P-PStandard-Adapter), and I will cut it down to the same 'square' dimensions as the arm. It seems like this is what aminaaudio does.

What I'm not sure about is where to cut the tonearm, so that when the adapter and cartridge are installed it's at the correct length for tracking.

I'm also not sure how the weight adjustment would need to be altered. Do these tables have enough 'range' for this kind of weight conversion?

Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Measure distance from arm end to needle on old cartridge, then do the same on the adapter with the new cartridge and cut off the difference. You will also have to calculate the height placement of the adapter to get the same needle height corresponding to the arm. The weight adjustment is spring loaded so you will have to do it with a weight gauge or scale, but as the adapter looks much heavier than the original fitting, I would cut/grind off as much weight as possible from the adapter and go from there.

Thanks for the response Søren!

Unfortunately I can't take that measurement... Is there anyone that could provide it? Ie the distance from the tip of the stylus to the end of the tone arm?

Hear what you're saying about the weight of the adapter, will definitely shave off everything that's unnecessary.

Also might as well begin the search for a new arm, does anyone have one for sale?

Needle set down point must be the same as center of platter shaft. so go from there.

Our for sale and wanted forum is for silver and gold members, so signing up and placing a wanted "add" may give better response.

And getting another tonearm is the better solution, placement of the adapter, not to speak of finding the right weight adjustment, will be a hassle.

It wouldn't look right either.
