Can this thing work without an iPad?
Yes. Why are you going on about iPads?

Or we could just check if and how new Beosound Moment could address music listening needs and habits without lame cartoons and dramas. To some it will work well, to some it will not. Your needs are not addressed, but that does not make other people brainless.

So the iPad looking thing isn't an iPad? That's set in the part of it you can bring along?
B&O has gone sofar, to blatantly copy the home button icon of Apple?
Too long to list....

I am quite sure, that this is how quite a lot of people want to listen to music nowadays.
Not all Beoworlders, but a lot of them too - I guess.

No, it is not an iPad. It is the touchscreen side of a BeoSound Essence. I can't see a home button on the pictures I am looking at, and even if I did... So what?

We will have to start a 'wood-thread' on Beoworld.

At the moment I think, it is a nice device not only as a music nanny, but as a real device for music streaming from a NAS, a pc/mac or something els without being deezed and confused. But I need some time to fill up the crater in my wallet caused by a pair of penguins ...
I think that they could have taken the form of almost any 1970's Beomaster and remodelled it to take a removable tablet.
The base unit of the Moment is not elegant.

So is the Essence the link system for the Moment?

So you're saying this isn't a third party tablet of some kind (insert iPad type device name here) ? B&O just thought it would be very cool to closely, down to the rounded corners imitate them... In a device otherwise having 90 degree corners. Yup. That must be it.

It probably is a tablet they have sourced from somewhere, with different software and built into a new device - who cares? If they designed, tested and manufactured their own touchscreen it would cost a fortune.
earlier I the thread you said something all the lines of "will this work without an iPad" suggesting it was a device you placed your own ipad in, and kept blabbing on about already having and ipad. I don't care if you have an iPad, or if it's a tesco hudl built into it. I will form my opinion when I see and try one, but based on what I have seen and read so far I think it's a very neat device and I would love one and couldn't care less what the base hardware may or mag not be.
if someone cares if it's and ipad, or another tablet, I fear they have missed the point and should stick with their ipad for music.
StUrrock:Multiroom?

expoman:So is the Essence the link system for the Moment?
Does B&O plan on including a Mood ring for the owner to wear?
The specs i have heard, it sounds that the device is exactly i was looking for: Digital Music from your library; Internet radio; Deezer integrated (I don't mind if it is deezer, spotify, or something else - peanuts in my eyes); the Touchscreen for "finding" the Music - of course there are Fingerprints, but scroll to a single letter and press ok...... AND at least one socket to integrate analogue sources (turntable).
The design is in my eyes quite suitable, the only thing i can criticize are the round edges of the display - it really looks as if there is an ipad inserted, sharp edges would have been a design link to the BS5. Placement Options have never been a B&O Problem.
So if the edges of the display are my only problem with the device it sounds nearly perfect (to me), I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Indeed I thought looking at the pics, this was a device you put your own iPad in. (Doesn't really make a huge difference, besides you could do other stuff on the Beo thingy while listening to music) Anyway, my take on this is the shortcuts B&O are taking once again.
If this product was a BeoPlay one, with a fairly low price point, it may float... But this one is a Beosound product.
B&O wouldn't have to "develop" their own touchscreen. While not being a component professional, I'm sure there's many companies who make touchscreens (under license) and these could surely have made B&O a nice component.
B&O strategies are failing. Automotive part decreasing by over 20%, BeoPlay failing. The core audio is growing right now, but what will happen there once the new Avant starts to slow in sales? The up comers of their sales such as automotive is slowing, and while they may speculate in it taking on a growth again, that remains purely speculation.
What I once again see (without knowing too much of the product) is a half-hearted attempt, a quickly and poorly designed... Something... with the centerpiece of the product being a cheap third party tablet of some kind. Clearly their attempts (on a company level) aren't working. The business is loosing money. They'll loose money on this Beosound Moment too.
B&O seem to think their problems are related to world economics, they are not. They have such an uninteresting lineup, that I haven't sat foot in a B&O showroom in 18 months! Other luxury items are selling just fine. Not just fine, they're breaking records!
I'd love to replace my BS9000/Mac Mini setup, as the BS9000 the mechanical marvel it is, haven't had the radio used for 2 years, and the CD's do spin, but all audio content comes from the Mac Mini. But something like the Moment wouldn't even fit my current setup visually. (Beolab 5's with Beovision 9)
I'm sure B&O did some things right here with the moment. Many of us (me included) said the screen of the Beosound 5 should have been a mobile one. Now we have that. We have a much smaller base/hub compared to the Beosound 5. Yay! All good things, but a premium product such as the Beosound lineup shouldn't be filled with third-party solutions in the form of blatantly taking a tablet and smacking it in the center. It's laziness, and laziness in business never works long term.
Does the wood and aluminium wheel control volume like the BeoCenter 2 ?
Are the previous-next track control inside the wheel ?
- No Spotify as of yet. Probably Spotify Connect later down the road.- It is not a standard tablet per se (unless you know better). It is a single-purpose device and there comparison with an iPad doesn't make sense really. The Moment offers an experience that an iPad might not be able to.- Multiroom is launching with a sw update later this year and it's really nice.- You can connect a NAS as your music storage via DLNA.
I agree with Bayerische that a premium product such as all the Beosound products not really should be filled with third-party solutions. Taking a third-party tablet and integrate it so badly (that small aluminum board is too much, just wishing they would visual done a better job on it) B&O could do a lot better.
But I can get into it that it would be too difficult to develop a proprietary operating system with hardware for a small company as B&O, and the final price would be up to high. So at last, I can and want to live with this third-party tablet.
I am definitely interested and want to see this unit as a worthy replacement for my Beosound 3200. It should, of course, be possible to continue to use the nl/ml converter herein, I absolutely do not want to lose my current link system.
And it must also have the ability to play my 24 bit music files, only then it may be a worthy replacement for the Mac mini in my current setup.
I might be old school, especially for the younger generation, but I miss the old radio function on it. I found this being part of the Beosound integration. It feels just as you now buy one of those new cars without a spare wheel, and you suddenly come to the reality that the aerosol to repair one of the tire’s is over his lifespan and no longer works. I know you can listen to every radiostation from around the world with internetradio, but not everyone has a unlimited internet connection. Paying a provider some 600 euro on ‘fuel’ costs every year to get unlimited access is not worth it for me.
Welcome to the new century!

PhilLondon:It was said it had no storage. You'll need a NAS of your choice, or the Beomaster 5. But to be confirmed.
