It operates fine in all positions except flat-on-back, in which case it needs assistance opening fully due to its weight.  Can this be cured with a well-placed drop of oil or is it more complicated than that?  It's a Mk III

I haven't got one of these (yet) but from previous posts and my limited memory of them, and just for belt and braces - have you changed the 'position' switch on the BS9000 to tell it that it is on its back?  I'm sure you have but just to double check.  I'm sure that the switch is more related to the CD mechanism but I don't know if it has any effect on the doors?

Have you checked the service manual for lubrication points and materials?  Is the door parallel?

Dave.

The door is perfect and operates in all positions except flat on back.  It's not related to the position settings.  My guess is that it's belt-related but was hoping someone would point to a lubrication issue.  Thanks for your reply; I'll check the service manual.

The belt needs to be replaced in the gearbox.

Depending on age, the old grease should be removed either.

Beobuddy seems to have 'hit the nail on the head'.  Seems most likely.

The service manual wasn't that helpfull - I had a quick look earlier.
