I have recently rescued a 5500 record deck from being dumped and I have set it up with a pre-amp from Sounds Heavenly.

To start with I would occasionally get a buzzing noise (like a badly earthed electric guitar) while the record was playing, but now I get it every time I play a record.

There is no buzz when I start the turntable turning, it starts just when  the stylus comes into contact with the record, and stops immediately when the tone arm is lifted.

Steve at Sounds Heavenly has been very helpful, and suggests there may be a loose wire/joint inside the player - I've had a look and there's nothing obvious.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas on how to fix?

It is an earth problem. Try running a wire from the Beogram chassis to earth on your amplifier. If it works, then check the wiring of the DIN plug - the casing of the DIN plug attaches to earth. How does the pre-amp attach? It only buzzes when you play a record as there is a muting circuit that switches off as the arm drops.

Welcome to Beoworld.

Peter, thank you so much. It was the DIN plug, fixed for now by twisting to make all the connections - may need more attention later!

Sounding great now without the buzz Smile
