Hi

My BV 8-32 needs extra grunt in the sound dept ( my wife likes the Voice...and I dont want the tv speakers wrecked, so....) , so while I'm sourcing some active speakers, I'd like to run an analogue amp off the powerlink connector at the back of the tv.

One concern I have is whether the powerrlink has enough capacity to drive an analogue amp, or whether i would need a pre-amp? Is there anything else I'd need.

Also, is the powerlink fully synched with the video so there is no lip synch issues?

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks/Danke/Merci/Tak

This is very easy.

The powerlink port can drive separate amps just fine. All you will need is a cable that converts for 8 pin DIN to stereo RCA.

No preamp necessary as powerlink signals are volume controlled.

You can use excellent DE TOMA Amp. Like De Toma 102.

I will recommend the Niles 'SI' series of amplifiers. They have a DC trigger input that is sensitive enough to be actuated by the PowerLink ~4.8vdc constant.

They also have 'soft on' and will shut off when the BeoItem is muted. I have the SI-275 and it integrates effortlessly with a BeoSystem. All that is needed is a adapter cable.

I also employ a beastly Yamaha P2201. While it is a superior amplifier in all categories, it is harder to live with as it does not have a DC trigger or audio signal sensing circuits.

I did eventually get a 8 pin DIN plug from Sounds Heavenly and connected it to my external analogue amp using the powerlink socket ( powerlink to left and right channel conversion cable ).

Then on the tv, I set the centre speaker volume on the tv to the desired level, set the volume on the amp and it all works fantastically. the external amp is driven by the centre speaker.
