Beomaster 1000's new best friend... It is a palissander beauty (and so is the lid) in mint condition, one home since 1968. I also got a new SP6/7 stylus to boot!

I now see the clever double suspension, very nice. I gave up on the upper bearing, I could not get the pulley out (steel version, not angled). But the motor runs fine, I think the slow start was in fact because the idler wheel bearing was kind of stuck in old grease.

My son has mine, same model, and yes they are beautiful, bought mine in DK, and Martin gave it a service. The slow start was only cleaning, and the stuck speed adjustment Martin fixed, and also provided a new speed adjustment knob. If you need belt, Axel has them.

Congrats Jacques

The original belt (brown colour) is still going strong after all these years in the same cosy, warm, non-smoking flat. Care is everything.

Same with mine, I bought a new belt from Axel, but never needed it, but my 1202 has the same brown belt and that one I had to change.

Hello!

What would the best period speakers be for this combo?

I often read that the Beovox 1000 are not quite hifi, and that the 1200 are much better.

Any thoughts my Beofriends?

Those will be the final touch to Dave's gift that was the Beomaster 1000 (I love it so much).

Beovox 1500, big but stunning sound. Alternatively Beovox 2600.

I can recommend the Beovox 1600, they are as the Beovox 1000 2 way speakers, and not as the one shown in the product list 3 way. The wall hanged 1600 gives a good sound with the BM 1000, last time I heard Beovox 1000 is 44 years ago, so I hardly remember how they sound.

Beovox 1600 came in no less than three different versions:

Type 6219 is two-way (Peerless/Peerless)
Type 6228 is two-way (Philips/Celestion)
Type 6236 is three-way (Wharfdale/Philips/Seas)

And I agree, they are quite good sounding speakers.

Hi Jacques,

I would have loved to have provided some sage advice, if only I had some, which I don’t. However I paid careful attention to advice given you as one day, my Beomaster 1000 will be up and running. (Right now it sounds too terrible to even consider speakers.) Sad

I want to finish the record section (faulty IC) on my Tandberg 9000X and service the Akai 8-Track before tackling the BM 1000. But it is in the repair line-up.

Still covet your Beogram 1000, just a beautiful instrument. Yes - thumbs up

Being a completist, one of my future projects will be to find a nice white-keyed Beomaster 1000. I missed a mint one some time ago, 25 km from my place. I still think I am an idiot.

Anyway, the speakers!

You are not alone Jacques, 2 years ago I missed out on Beolab/Beomaster 5000, buy now USD 200.00, by 3 min, because I was on the phone with a client.

Hi Jacques,

You may well remember that I passed up on a marvelous Beolab 5000….. absolutely the perfect purchase at the wrong time.

I was experiencing cash-flow issues at the time that would have required borrowing the money, which is seldom a good idea.

The cash-flow issue is now history and if that Beolab 5000 were have come up today I would have snatched it up in less than a “New York second.”

I was prudent, but still feel cheated.

So you see my friend, we have all “been there.”

Mmm. All too familiar, this.

I was much luckier when I bought my Beolab 5000.

I had just sold a lens on eBay, and two minutes after the sale, this Beolab came up, in France, for the exact amount of my sale! And it was a Buy Now item!

I said 'he's building an RIAA' to my wife when I saw your board a while back.  So, you now 'need' a white key version?  They do appear fairly frequently and now you've restored one, the next one is even easier.

Certainly easier than my latest acquisition - it's from 1948 and unfortunately the wood case was damaged in transit.  I'll deal with that and Martin will hopefully bring the mechanics to life!  More details to follow in a seperate thread.  Guesses are welcome as to what it might be.

Dave.

It depends on your needs. Do you have space, do you want a big or small bookshelf speakers, on the floor or on the wall...

All speakers mentioned by Beoworlders are for sure good choice.

But if you eventually can find Beovox 2200 buy them, I can really recommend them. They are small 2 way bookshelf speakers but with perfect proportions (very thief for their size). They produce the best bas I ever heard from such a small speakers. They would match your BM1000 I am sure...

My second vote goes to BV1600. Very nice and good sounding speakers!

I'm sorry to learn that the beautiful wooden case was damaged Dave...

Is it the one I saw at your place?

Dave Farr:

Yes, it's a Beocord 84U.

Really?

It was a pure luck. I tried "Beophile 1948" with google and the first item was a Beocord 84U. I remembered it was a unit on the Ebay few weeks ago. And thanI thought, it could be...

Really nice old item. Will be possible to restore it at all? I know the Martin is a magician but if he need a spare parts (and this old mechanical thing has few of them!) it could be almost impossible to find them.

I wish you and Martin good Project with Happy-End Yes - thumbs up

Dave Farr:

I'll be posting on the restoration in the future.

Yes please, we will be happy to see some details of the restoration.

P.S. Sorry chartz, for using your thread on other issue... Off topic...

Lets back to your requirements on the speakers for the Beomaster 1000...

Being a completist,

Oh, man, I feel for you.  I was going down that path myself and luckily was able to kick the habit.  Now I have the following B&O gear sitting idle:  BM4000, BM1900, BC8004, BV P30, and BV S40.

That BG1000 is gorgeous, though.

On the subject of near-misses, I missed out on a Beogram 3000 Acoustical a couple of years ago with Beolab 5000 and some beovox 5000s. It all went for less than £300 quid and I was (still am) kicking myself for missing it!

Dave, really looking forward to the thread on the Beocord, it really is a lovely thing, best of luck to you and Martin on that one!
