Is anyone successfully controlling XBMC/Kodi on MacMini using the Beo4 (PUC)? It used to work rather well, but no longer. Issue may be Yosemite, Helix or anything else. Would love to hear from anyone who has this setup working. Thanks!!!!

Do you have Spotify Mac Remote installed?

It was working fine for me in Yosemite, but not after I installed SMR.

Thanks for your message. No Spotify remote installed on mine.

I installed some software that sees what remote signals are being sent to the IR of my Mac.

It appears that only five signals are sent (left/right/down/up/menu). The most important signal (select/play) is not being sent. The keys "play" and "stop" on the Beo4 do not send any signal via PUC.

Any idea? Are there different PUCs?

You have the Apple Remote PUC on your Beovision?

Can you try with your original apple remote, just to see if Kodi works with that one.

Another tip if you would like to control with your iphone/android is to use Unified Remote. Amazing app :)

And just for the record, the buttons I am using on my Beo4 to control is:

-up

-down

-left

-right

-go (play)

-yellow (back)

I meant green, not yellow.

What version of OS X are you running?

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, the standard Apple Remote is working well and I have the PUC installed.

It looks like we have the same success except that my "play" key does not allow to select anything. I have a tool that tells me whether a IR signal is detected,. When I press "play" on my Beo4, there is no IR signal that the Mini can read.

Actually it used to work in the past and I am not sure what has changed. Maybe it is related to the Yosemite upgrade? Are you using Yosemite?

Unfortunately not. I believe it used to work. Maybe related to Yosemite? Does anyone have it working with Yosemite? Any other idea what the reason may be?

I am running Yosemite.

Try this just for fun:

Deselect everything in your sources option on the BV for the connection of your Mac. Then turn tv off.

Turn on and set it up again. Try with different it connection also if you are not already using them for other devices.

Thanks for your message. I remember that DTV is the only source that I can set up the PUC with? I used to have it on DVD-2 before I installed the PUC, but had to switch to DTV to make it work.

Let me try to deselected and select again over the weekend. This issue is really driving me crazy. I am also thinking to make a clean install of my MacMini to make sure that nothing on the Mac side is causing this. The Mac remote works though, so it feels that this may not resolve things.

On my BV7 I can use whatever source I want for the Mac. Here is nothing wrong on the Mac side when the apple remote is working. It is the BV that is not sending the signal for some reason.

But of course, if you are really, really, REALLY bored... Then a reinstall is always "fun". At least install an SSD when you reinstall Wink

I can also use whatever source on BV7, but can only associate the PUC to DTV. I remember there was some reason that DVD-2 did not work with the PUC,

Let me give it a try on the weekend.

Did you have time to try it out yet?

Finally had the chance to spend some time on it today. Actually, it did require me to wipe my Mini and did a fresh install. Now, it actually works pretty much like I would have it expected. I am now hesitant to install "airserver" and "remotebuddy". One of the two must have caused the issue. Have you been using any of the two and has this caused any issues?

Let me look into the programs in order to compare them to what I am using, and I will get back with my setup :)

If you want a remote in your iPhone in order to control Kodi, I use UnifiedRemote.

Thanks, please let me know if you happen to use "airsever" or "remotebuddy". I would love to install "airserver", but not sure whether this initially caused my issue. Now, things are working well with the PUC / Beo4.

I would prefer not to use my iphone to control Kodi. I really love to keep the Beo4 the one and only remote for my mediacenter.

Do you need remotebuddy for this? I control Kodi with my Beo4 without additional software.

Could you write your complete setup?

No strong need for remotebuddy, but would be a nice to have to launch Kodi with my Beo4. I would love to mirror my iphone to my BV though and that's what I would need "airserver".

Ahh, I see.
I have both Apple TV3 and a MBP connected to the BV.

How is your setup with remotebuddy to launch kodi? Sounds interesting.

I currently do not have Remotebuddy installed (for obvious reasons). It used to work though well. Once having installed remotebuddy, it is quite straight forward to map Beo4 buttons to specific OSX actions. So, I just mapped it to launching Kodi. It is hard to explain, but very intuitive once you have remotebuddy installed, Just takes a few minutes to set up.

I have two mbp´s, and planning to do a reinstall, so I can be a testpilot.

(if it has a trial period)

Hi!

I am looking into this as well since B&O don't invest any energy in their media player in the current beovisions.

I have a few different machines thought out for the job and it looks like I am going to use a MacBook Air with a broken screen. Adding an IR sensor from an older MacBook Pro (for the puc-compability) and perhaps some other modifications.

Might do it another way it is a very silent and low power machine so it would do a great job I think.

If so that is great. I never saw the air as anything else than a word-processor :P

Thanks, good discussion.

Re remotebuddy - yes, it has a trial. And so does "airserver", which is fantastic if you are interested in airplay mirroring. Let me know if/once you have a chance to play around with them.

Re mediaplayer in BV - I am actually very happy that B&O does not invest too much in media players in their BVs. Anything that they would be doing would immediately be outdated and it would be a constant run for updates. ATV or other solutions well take this place.

Re MB Air - power-wise should be more than plenty. However, not sure whether a notebook (which cannot be closed) will look as nice next to your BV... So, my suggestion would be to either invest in a MacMini or go with some other solution with small form factor. The RPi is an awesome device, but lack of a PUC is a constraint. I haven't look into other devices that are supported by a PUC, but open to suggestions. Maybe one of the NUCs?

Re IR lense - how do you use your IR lense from your MBP with your Air. Doesn't sound like an easy task?
