Hi all..I currently got in two Beo components and I am pretty sure she will end up wanting me to list the on Ebay soon. (I help people sell all sort of things both locally and online).

I am very impressed with these pieces as far as quality goes...I couldn't believe how heavy the Beomaster 5500 was and the Turn Table Beogram 5500 looked very nice as well. I can tell just by how you open these up they are of higher than average quality.

My question to you all is...if I do end up selling these and having to ship them, what is the best way to protect the stylus / tonearm during transport?

I see there are three screws under neath to lock the platter down so I will do that..and I will of course pad everything very good with foam and double box...but just want to be sure I do this correctly.

Off the top of my head I was thinking to put a ziplock bag over the stylus and then stuff foam in and around that area so it doesn't bounce around.

Does anyone have more suggestions on this?

Thank you in advance.

Take the platter off and tape it to the bottom of the record player. The big question is whether to remove the cartridge. The advantage is that you can protect it in a box. The disadvantage is that the pins can loosen rendering the cartridge useless. I would probably leave it in place but put some polystyrene under the arm so that it cannot move and tape it. Make sure the sub platter is taped and then some foam put between that and the lid so it cannot get loose. Double box with lots of chippings and keep your fingers crossed. The best way of getting a deck is in the original packaging obviously and to pick it up yourself - but obviously this is not usually practical!

Taking the platter off is a good idea and I would not have thought of that one....thank you.

As for the stylus..I don't think I want to risk taking it off since I don't really know what I am doing and don't want to risk messing something up.

Thank you for the advice Peter :)

Doing as Peter suggest, and then wrap the platter and the unit in bubble wrap, fill out the box with unicell (white packing foam) all around in the box bottom sides top,. I just received a BG 3000 and a BG CD50 packed this way from Rich and no problems
