Hi!

I'm totaly new in the Beoworld. I got a set Bang Olufssen from my grandmother.

one Beogram CD5500
one Beogram 5500 Record Deck
two Beocord 5500 Cassette Deck
one Beomaster 5500
one MCP 5500
a pair of penta speakers.

My problem is, there is a humming sound from the Beomaster. Did anyone have this issue before. It's just like a transformer humming. Could I pick it a part to clean it in some way? Or do i have to replace any components?

I should ad, it's pretty warm even without playing it, in the cooling area at the back. And when I got it from her, the beomaster shut down after 15 seconds of playing. I unplugged everything and replugged it after 10 minutes. Then it played without problems, except this humming sound. I can hear the humming inside the beomaster, and the humming comes out from the speakers as well.

Any answers and thaughts are really welcome!

Best regards, Carl-Fredrik

Maybe idle-current adjustment and new rubber isolating "pricks" to transformer.

Confirmed.

Make the "no load adjustment" and it will work again...

If you are handy with soldering iron, you could change those pots to new ones as they might be oxided.

Changing the idle-current pots is always a good idea with these aged devices.

But when the humming is still present when the master is at standby, then do as Orava suggested, change the rubber feet from the transformer, They are probably/most likely perished.

If you replace the potis, measure the adjustment and install it the same way... otherwise the amp will Switch off or will burn. No fun...

Replace one poti, not both at the same time. It is difficult to analyze which channel has the problem...
