Hi, my Avant picture is clipped at the top and bottom, as well as left and right. I understand how to move the whole picture up and down, and how to adjust to full screen etc. but on 'List plus 1', for example, I can't get  straplines on news bulletins or scores in football matches fully visible in the picture.

How to adjust top and bottom, left and right, to 'squash' them into the picture? Revert to factory settings? If so, how?

You have to press list until it says format. Then you can choose format 1/2/3 with the keypad and if you want to adjust height or zoom you do that with the nav-keys. It behaves differently on different formats.

For more advanced settings you have to enter the service menu which I strongly think you should not do if it is not necessary.

Also the problem might lie in connected equipment such as DVD or a set top box if it is such sources you have trouble with. If so you can usually go into a setup menu and set the picture proportions (should be 16:9) and such settings.

Thanks, for your reply Michael, I don't really want to get involved with detailed pic geometry without the right settings or test tools. But if there's a factory reset option or something similar it could be useful.

I'm about to get a Humax unit instead of my old tvonics stb, so will see what difference this makes. Looking back I think the prob started when I connected the current stb.

Regards
