The usual preamble acknowledging that this is a B&O site; however I am in search for a company that makes reproduction bits for vintage stereo electronics.
Seven months ago I was put in touch with a firm that makes the plastic knobs for my Tandberg 9000X reel-to-reel, but I elected to wait until my recorder was successfully repaired. Well after seven months, the 9000X is repaired and now I can’t find the reference to this company.
When I checked out their site in June I found exactly what I need. The company is in the USA, but that is all I remember about it.
This photo is off the web, NOT my Tandberg. However it is the same model and clearly shows the slider knobs.
Any ideas where I might look?
Thanks.
Jeff

Jeff,
it's always a pain when you forget to bookmark pages - I've done the same!
Have you tried these:
http://www.sound-smith.com/tandparts.html
You could also try the Tapeheads.Net forum.
These vintage parts are ripe for 3D printing as I've previously mentioned to other members. This has been done for BM8000 and BM6000 series with obsolete parts by a Beoworld member very successfully. Why not think about getting some made by this method?
This is another salvage company for RtoR players:
http://www.oaktreevintage.com/Stereo_Open_Reel-Reel_Tape_Decks_Recorders.htm
If you search the internet with appropriate terms you may strike lucky and find the company again. Reverse engineer your search from last year!
Good luck,
Dave.
Hi Dave,
I emailed Soundsmiths yesterday and am waiting for their reply.
I did find MCM Electronics that has a potential slider knob for 29¢. Total order $1.45.
They don’t come in turquoise and are larger and a different shape as compared to the originals, BUT the post size is identical, so I sent for them.
I’ll let you guys know if it works out or not.
Dave and everyone, you might want to keep that name on file: mcmelectronics.com.
Thanks for your input. I really appreciate the effort!
