Hi, I'working on y Beo5 and I'm asking myself if it is possible to join all icons on the screen? I want to have my Beo5 to look as if there is only one picture on the screen. Icons would have to touch each other without a black strip between the buttons.

Is this possible?

My Beo5 is firmware 1.45 and CT is 6.62

I'm also searching for the possible icon sizes.

I found 72 x 72,  92 x 92, 92 x 44, 100 x 44 is this correct, are there more different sizes?

thanks' for your help

Gerard

I would think it's technically possible to have the icons touch each other, but you need to find the right icon dimensions to occupy the whole space for each parcel (there are 9 per screen)

I thought this was an interesting idea, so I have had a play (albeit on a beo6 not a beo5). This is what I have discovered:

The help file says "A logo must be either in BMP or JPG format and must not be wider than 92 pixels and 44 pixels high. It is a good idea if the logo’s background is optimised to a black background. If a logo is too large, it may result in malfunction in the remote."

I played around with various sized images (just blocks of solid colour) and discovered that the 'virtual remote' within the configuration utility would accept and display image sizes up to 104x52 (these resulted in very narrow black bands between the logos - maybe just a pixel or two). Any larger and the images would be resized.

However, once I downloaded this config to the physical remote, they are resized further and appear no larger than a 92x44 pixel logo (with the correspondingly large black gaps between logos), so unfortunately it would appear it is not possible to eliminate these gaps and create one large image (or even an image with narrow gaps)

Martin.

It MUST be possible as the user "Rivenflush" posted absolutely lovely pictures with big images on his Beo 5 remote.
Have a look:
http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Components.UserFiles/00.00.00.36.51.Beo5/Bedroom.JPG

http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/227/34848.aspx#34848

btw: As 3rd party button config to the physical Beo 5 / 6 keyboard is gone in the latest version of the config tool: Is there a solution for this? I want to keep my 3rd party products controlled with the real buttons of the Beo 5.

Thanks' for your help,

@ TWG: that's exactly what I want to do, I can't do any test now because I'm not at home, in the same threat where Rivenflush posted his picture I found this answer from hfsat:

http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/227/46340.aspx#46340

hfat:

Stefan:
How did you manage to set background pictures to zones?

right mouse button click on the zone button -> properties -> select an image -> OK

very short, I hope it helps.

hfat

could you imagine this is the way?

Hi,

indeed it is possible - here is what I have done:

I am using v5.13 of the configuration tool. However, I only use the tool for small adjustments as I have manually created XMLs for all my products in a Notepad clone - this gives me full flexibility to add whatever I want in terms of images, macros, hard buttons etc. It is rather straight forward IMHO, although it helps if you have some programming experience.

Regarding the size of the images it depends on how you have configured the screen. As the resolution of the Beo5 is 320 x 240 pixels and if you e.g. have 3 images beside each other the width of each image should be 120 pixels etc. Also, tTo get a different layout on the zones page I actually needed to edit the Configuration.xml file and change the "Screen type" tag.

So that's the secret - manual programming outside of the configuration tool. Through my Beo5s I control everything in our apartment: A couple of Beosounds, Yamaha receiver, Panasonic TVs, Motorola Satellite box, Playstation 3, Apple TV and our lightning. Most screens combine different products and macros, e.g. if I press Games in our Lounge, the Beo5 will turn on the Playstation 3, Panasonic TV and Yamaha receiver. In addition it will select the proper HDMI input on both the TV and the receiver. Both soft and hard buttons are then programmed accordingly to e.g. move around in the Playstation screens, control the volume through the Yamaha, switch inputs on the TV etc.

It's quite sad that B&O did not capitalise on the Beo5 - it is such a wonderful remote, so powerful, but unfortunately inhibited by the complexity of the configuration tool. If I ever apply to Bang & Olufsen (though has crossed my mind) I always thought I should supply some pics of my Beo5 just to who how passionate I am to the brand.Smile

Best regards,

Riven

Thank you very mutch!

I can't wait for it to get home in a week and take a look at these xml's.

Did you "decode" the xml on your own or is there a help-file somewhere to explain the different tags in the configuration.xml?

Yes, thank you very much!

Would you mind in sharing some kind of example or tutorial how those xml files have to look, how they need to be structured and you implement pictures etc.?

Do you just use the config tool for uploads to the remote?

Is it still possible to use the hard buttons for 3rd party products? In the newest version of the tool it does not seem to be possible anymore but nobody can answer that!?

questions over questions, I know, but as you've outed yourself as one of those super competent cracks... ;-)

And you SHOULD sign up for Bang & Olufsen as software is - as you can clearly see with the Beosound 5, configuration tool, Beosound Moment... that is definitely NOT their strongest point. :-)

Hi,

Guide:
Check the Wiki on this site, there is a comprehensive guide there giving all the info you need.

Upload:
Yes, I use the tool for upload to the remote.

Hard buttons:
I do not know about any restrictions B&O might have imposed in later releases of the tool, in version 5.13 it is possible and for me, it has not made any sense to upgrade to a later version as it works ok for me as it is. Probably you would be able to manually add 3rd party commands to hard buttons in the XMLs though.

Example XMLs:
If you go to the folder where you installed the tool, you should be able to find some 3rd party examples. Other examples are available on this site in the Wiki (together with the guide) or in numerous threads if you search for a specific product

Regards,
Riven

Thank you for your information.

I red the " BEO5/6 CONFIGURATION GUIDE " from the wiki written by hfat in beoworld.

it would be very interesting to have a look into your XML where the information for the zones images is stored (3 pictures side by side without gap) and the information for one room e.g. Kitchen (1 large kitchen picture) and could you provide us with the picture infos, width high bits?

You wrote:

If the screen is 320 pixels how do you manage to get  3 x 120 pixels in a row?

In the forum-Wiki specification from the beo5 are told to be :

  • Screen Type Delta-RGB, 234x960 pixels, normal black. Colour 16.777.216 colours. Contrast ratio 500 @ 25C (typ)

To get a better understanding of these changements in your XML it would be very nice to see some code lines. Thank you Riven.

Hi,

unfortunately I do not have access to the XMLs at the moment as I am away over the weekend. However, to add images in the XML you first need to add them as a resource in the header as below:

  <resource>

    <image stName="CT-90326" stFile="Images\CT-90326.jpg" />

  </resource>

then you call the same image in the subitem

<source_subItem stName="STANDBY" stCaption="STANDBY" stImage="CT-90326"....

(and the images naturally need to be placed in the "images" folder in the Configuration tool folder.

You have an example XML in this thread:
http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/6857/65019.aspx#65019

Regarding the resolution, it is not 234 x 960 (it would have been a very high and narrow screen then) - it is 320 x 240. The image size I use is two images of 107 x 80 px and one of 106 x 80 (120 px wide wide was a mistype). When you add them in the XMLs as I do and then add that XML directly in the tool they are not resized (at least not in v5.13).

Best regards

Riven

here my first test, it needs some fine tuning, but full row picture works thanks to Riven's help.

I forgot to change display from 4x3 to 3x3 (4rows x 3columns)

EDIT: Picture added

TWG:
Is it still possible to use the hard buttons for 3rd party products? In the newest version of the tool it does not seem to be possible anymore but nobody can answer that!?

@ TWG

Yes , I may say that is is still possible to assign 3rd party commands to hardKeys in CT 6.62

While playing arround with my Beo5 in CT 6.62 I draged some commands to the hard keys., most of them do not work, probabely because I did not pay attention to where I draged them and because I do not know if the command I found in the 3rd party XML (DM7000) are the good ones for my DM8000.

But I draged the DM7000 "STANDBY" command to the hardKey StandBy (red dot) in the product part of the XML dealing with my Dreambox commands.

This button works fine!

When looking at the XML file in XML Notepad 2007 I noticed that in every zone, scene or product the hardKey tags are present , normaly there are 24 hardKey tags.

Starting with the 3 hardKeys from the screen:

1. stCaption="UPBack"

2. stCaption="Scene"

3. stCaption="Digits"

following are the 21 hardKeys from the bulb:

4 arrows outer ring:

4. stCaption="StepUp"

5. stCaption="StepDown"

6. stCaption="Rewind"

7. stCaption="Wind"

4 Text-buttons outer ring:

8. stCaption="Play"

9. stCaption="StandBy"

10. stCaption="Back"

11. stCaption="Stop"

4 colour buttons:

12. stCaption="Green"

13. stCaption="Yellow"

14. stCaption="Red"

15. stCaption="Blue"

4 joystick arrows + OK

16. stCaption="Up"

17. stCaption="Right"

18. stCaption="Left"

19. stCaption="Down"

20. stCaption="Ok"

4 wheelKeys, Left and Right combinig normal and fast movement

21. stCaption="WheelLeft" stName="zones\WheelLeft"

22. stCaption="WheelLeft" stName="zones\WheelLeftFast"

23. stCaption="WheelRight" stName="zones\WheelRight"

24. stCaption="WheelRight" stName="zones\WheelRightFast"

2 examples of hardKey programing :

the STANDBY key in the root-zone (B&O - Standby):

<hardKey

stName="zones\StandBy"

stCaption="StandBy"

stLeave="LAST zone"

stLeaveLong="LAST zone"

stShortPressCommand="STANDBY"

stIR="F0:TV:STANDBY" />

the STANDBY key in the dreambox-product (DM7000 - Standby):

<hardKey

stName="zones\Stuff\DreamBox\DreamBox\StandBy"

stCaption="StandBy"

stLeave="LAST zone"

stShortPressCommand=""

stIR="RAW:GlobalManual=1#IRSEQUENCE=RAW#ListOfFlanks=$00D2,$02F7,$00D2,$0A67,$00D2,$02F7,$00D2,$0AEF,$00D2,$0517,$00D2,$0517,$00D2,$037F,$00D2,$0847,$00D2,$35DE,$00D2,$02F7,$00D2,$037F,$00D2,$02F7,$00D2,$02F7,$00D2,$02F7,$00D2,$0AEF,$00D2,$02F7,$00D2,$02F7,$00D2#Pause1=80400#Pause2=80400#Carrier=38#Comment="

stIRContinuous=""

I hope this gives an answer to your question.

Gerard

The hard key questions were related to ct version 6.84, not 6.62. 6.84 seems very hard to find however. I haven't been lucky so far.

Thanks for the information. I really like this sort of threads!

Nice people with a lot of knowledge!

It's more than sad to see how much potential Bang & Olufsen missed with the Beo 5 and Beo 6 remotes...
