I have Beolab 9s as my fronts with a 7-4. Currently have 4000s on floor stands as rears. 4000s are the wrong color and I think perhaps as rears should be higher. Dealer I work with currently has some used speakers available, something that is rather unusual here in the US although common elsewhere.
I am looking for silver and probably would wall mount. My options are, based on what dealer has available:
1. Used Beolab 6002 in silver (I have 6000s as rears in another room and have always loved both the look and the sound from them)
2. Used Beolab 17s in silver
3. Used Beolab 4000s, from 2007 in silver
4. New or used Beolab 12 in silver.
Any comments or thoughts?
In particular, how do the 17s sound compared to 4000s? would they be a step up?
Also, I have Masterlink in my walls but if I plug my 9s into the rear in wall Masterlink locations they hum. I assume this would also be a problem with the 12? What about 6002?
If the 6002 would not hum, they would make for the simplest and cleanest installation. Either on the floor or wall mounted just above the in wall Masterlink connections.
Would 4000s from 2007 be the older version or the newer version? I seem to remember some comments that the MKII version may not have sounded as good as the earlier ones?
Due the room shape, 12s would have to be mounted on side walls, and could not be mounted behind the listeners. 6002s could be placed a bit behind on floor. Also 4000s, 6002s, and 17 have the benefit of allowing for some angling, or high mounted speakers with a downward tilt in the case of 4000s and 17s.
Any comments on 12s being mounted flat on the side walls as opposed to behind the listener.
Right now I am leaning a bit towards the 6002s due to ease of installation and flexibility of placement.
Thanks for any and all input.

IMHO, the BL6002's are perfect rears (I used to have them as rears as well, and very happy with them in that role). I think the other speakers you've mentioned would be wasted as rear speakers, unless you were, of course planning on using them in a speaker group configuration where they'd act as fronts.
Also, since you have BL9's as fronts, and you were planning on wall mounting rears, your suggestion of a BL12 (specifically, 12-2) to match the acoustic lenses up front would be an elegant solution.

You've already said it - go for the 6002, they are perfect for the job.
You can't go wrong with them.

Thanks!
Will the Beolab 6002 work with the Masterlink that was installed in my house in 2004? Or will 6002s buzz like my 9s do if connected to the in wall Masterlink?
My current 4000s, 6000s, and 1s all work fine with the in wall Masterlink. Only the 9s have a problem. Am I correct that the 6002s are ice powered like the 9s, and thus there may be problem connecting them to the in wall Masterlink?
I suspect that any Beolab using the Class-D amps, which includes the 6002, will buzz unless the proper model of PL cable is used. Something which complicates your issue, but perhaps you can get your dealer to let you bring them home on audition to see?

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Im a big 12.3 fan but I installed a pair of 12.2s for a friend and they sound great.
If you can borrow either give them a try.
Otherwise the 6000s are an easy option but I do remember you had BL1s as rears- a hard act to follow.
Yes, hard to equal the 1s. They are now fronts in another room and due to them being burgundy, they would no longer look good as rears in the other.room.
I think dealer would let me try them at home. They once left a pair of Beolab 5s at my home for a couple weeks. But, wouldn't it be difficult to truly know how they would sound without mounting them on the wall?
Decided against the 6000s. Price is just a little bit less than the 12s. 6000s have a 12 month warranty. 12s have a three year warranty.
Have almost made up my mind to get the 12s. But the 12-2s are being offered at a 15% discount, 12-3s at a 30% discount. Price difference is not that great.
FYI, there are also a pair of 12-3's on ebay at the moment. No warranty or back plates, but... the price is right.
12-3s are now installed and working. Am very happy with them.
