Hi I have a 1981 Beocenter 7000 and I want to have an MCL82 link upstairs.  I have seen a few on Ebay, I presume the control panel that goes onto the wall is connected to the relay box via the 8 pin din cable and the stereo links to the link 1 socket,  with the master control cable?  Is this cable connected to the speaker 2 output? Then the upstairs speakers connect to the left and right sockets on the relay box? Hope this makes sense??

Yes - the 3 pin DIN sockets come from the speaker 2 sockets and supply power as well as a control circuit. They work well.

Where can I get the 3 pin plugs to fit these sockets for the masterlink setup?

Not completely simple! It is not just 3 core or 6 core wire as can be seen in the wiring diagram. One of the wires needs to be shielded and MCL wire carries amplified signal so it needs to be reasonable quality. I was given a roll of this some years ago but I am afraid over the years I have given it away. Definitely worth asking your local dealer as they often keep wire as it doesn't take up too much space. Otherwise I would suggest mains cable but in three separate wires keeping the data signal separate.
