Hello! If i use a Beolink Active to control two BL3. Could i then use a Beolink 1161 in conjunction to enable Datalink control of a Beogram player?Using the Beolink Active for IR and volume control and the Beolink 1161 to translate the Masterlink to datalink which the beogram understands. Then i could i connect, lets say an Airport Express to the A.Aux port of the Beolink Actives PC port? Since the 1161 converts the Datalink to Masterlink i'm hoping i could choose Phono on my Beo4, activating the Beogram. So the setup would be:Beogram ->Datalink-> 1161 -> ML -> Active <- PC-input <- Airport Express
I found this in the Masterlink Manual:
This is what i am trying to achieve except that the Beovision in the diagram is going to be an Beolink Active. And the stack is only going to consist of a single Beogram. My thoughts is that the powerlink signal from the stack to the converter is line level thus the Beogram (with built-in RIAA) is going to work just fine. This is the description of the converter from them manual:
Hello Mogelmose,
That is an interesting idea!
The latest version of the 1161 converter (type 1161166) can act as an ML driver, so in theory I think that this should auto-configure to the setup and pass through Datalink commands to the Beogram (although I haven't tried this arrangement myself).
You can connect the Airport Express to the PC port of the Beolink Active via the cable below:-

You will also need a Masterlink cable to connect the 1161 Converter to the Beolink Active:-
http://soundsheavenly.com/masterlink-control-and-sync/35--mlblack-.html
You then just need the cables to connect your Beolab speakers to the Beolink Active:-

I don't think, that this would work, since the datalink protocol is part of the AudioMaster, not of the BeoGram. The AudioMaster is needed to pass the datalink-signal to the 1611/the ML-driver.
It will be possible to open the port for the connected BeoGram (letting the line-level signal through), but not to turn it on (and control it).
But do tell us, how things work out - maybe I am not right after all
N.B. The AE connection to the PC-port of the BL Active should work fine!

There is a tv - and there is a BV
So i found a 1611. Looking at another topic here on Beoworld this, in the later editions, actually acts like an audiomaster like the 1161 i stated above. As no 1161 is for sale here in Denmark i am going to try the 1611 first.
I have found a Beolink Active but it has two Powerlink sockets and no PC socket. Is that a earlier version then? Furthermore, as this is a trial and error i'm not going to buy a brand new Beolink Active (if this doesnt work i have no use for it). Most used active's is SW 1.1 or 1.3 which means i cannot call A.Aux from the 1611.But somebody on here wrote i could try and call Phono (which absolutely makes sense as it is a Beogram that is on the a.aux). Phono (or some others like a.tape) should open up the masterlink a.aux channel passing on the sound. As this slim-line B&O setup doesnt sport a real Audiomaster i don't see any problem in the active and the remote is thinking Phono whilst i only want som A.Aux sound through :)The alternative: An upgrade to 1.6 but that could cost me 80€ = 600dkk. As said - this is an experiment :)
You'll need the 1611!
There are plenty of those out there - especially in DK!
I have never seen a BL Active with 2 PL's - one is for PL, the other for 'PC'.
Have a closer look at it - it says 'PC' on one of the ports.
Note - you need a speial cable for that to connect the AE - see link above in the post from Steve or buy one at your B&O dealer (there is an official cable just for that).

Do you have an old Beolink Active i can borrow? ;)
Wow - that is a nice one!
Now we need 'an expert' to tell us, what that was used for/how!
I would have one. But it depends on your location - I am not going to send it.
However, I can assure you, that it works (with the right one - and the right cable).
They should not be hard to find nowadays.
Hi MM,
From memory, I think the early 161x Beolink Actives had 2 x Powerlink sockets fitted, while the later 161x and 163x Actives had 1 x Powerlink and 1 x PC sockets fitted. The change seems to match the point that Beoport was withdrawn, if I remember correctly, ie. the Active was updated with a PC port to replace the functions previously carried out by Beoport.
I can provide input or output cables for the PC port on either version of Active, strangely the wiring in this socket is different for each type number (and it bears no resemblance to any DIN socket wiring used on any other B&O products!)
Kind regards, Steve.
@Steve
Thanks!
Sounds likely - I just never saw that version *
And yes, you have to take care of the strange wiring for the PC socket.

Hi,
the Beolink Active with two Powerlink connectors is the original one. It was later modified to the 'new' Beolink Actice with one Powerlink and one PC connector. This was done when the Beolink PC Office (the first one) came out.
EDIT: Steve was a bit faster than me )
Using a Beolink converter (1611) will probably only open the AUX connector of the 1611 to the masterlink connection without controlling the connected device. I think this has to do with the 'new' datalink format used for connecting Audio and Video Devices. The older datalink format is used from an audio device to an audio source to control the tape, phono or CD.

So the 2x powerlink active would not be possible to use.Just found a friend that maybe can get me a SW1.6 chip if i find an older Beolink Active which need upgrade to access A.Aux through Masterlink.
Good point - fine that you thought of that!
Better start looking for an AudioMaster as well - otherweise you (so it seems) won't be able to use/control the BeoGram
Note: the input port on the Active is opened with the 'PC' command from the Beo4.

I already have a Beomaster 6500 to go with the Beogram 7000. That is also the reason i don't want to put too much money in to this project.
But as the speakers would be active, the setup in this thread is slimmer, but with almost the same features.Actually it would be the last, about the control. I've been studying diagrams and i have a sneaking suspicion that i could make it work. More to that later.Meanwhile i have recieved a 1611. Now i need an Beolink Active.. And some Beolabs. Didn't thin of that until too late.
