For those of you unfamiliar with Marco Arment, he's a developer, and a superstar in the Mac community. I've been a fan of his since Tumblr, and back when Instapaper was still adding features. The Magazine, and now Overcast (his new, very good Podcatcher for iOS) are among his credits. He was one of the hosts of Neutral, and is currently one of the three hosts of ATP (Accidental Tech Podcast).

Marco has been a headphone-o-phile for a while now and has just added the B&O H8 so his compilation of short and succinct reviews. Here's a link. For those who may poo poo his taste for not really liking the H8... His top pick overall is the H6.

Thanx! I'm in the run to get a new pair of headphones as it's no longer possible to replace the foam parts on my first B&O, the Form1. Aimed for H8, but hesitated after all the fuzz with Bluetooth. This review makes it easier to go for H6 instead.

If you like music go for Grado.

Much better then B&O!

Grado are good but they are definitely not for everyone. I have a friend who swears by them, but for me personally most of their models are just far too clinical for my taste. I once was fortunate enough to have a pair of their original flagship from 1991, the model of which escapes me at the moment, and it did have amazing detail and soundstage, but even back then, still just too sterile, cold and clinical.

An extremely generous friend of mine gave me a pair of Grado RS-1 headphones - they are superb. I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD600s as recommended by another very helpful Beoworlder and these are also great. I probably prefer them as they are more comfortable when listening in bed!! Both are better than any B&O headphones but the equivalent models do cost more as well!

I have had the Grado 80i for some times now.

I do like them/the way they sound and I still use them once in a while.

The biggest issue I have with these, is that they (like all Grado's) are pretty open - I can't use them, when my wife is in the same room or on a trainride.

But I do prefer the H6 - it is the headphone, I have been looking for for years.

I use it only at home sitting in my comfortable chair - for more 'severe' listening.

Like the Grado's they engage you to active listening - you must take part in the listening process with these and you will benefit from their tuning.

For 'on the go' I prefer my H2. They are more convenient and straight forward - and they are light and fit well on the head, even if you move around.

I would not think of selling my Grado's, though!

As an all round, in the house headphone, HD600 for me everytime (disclaimer - ive never listened to 650's or 800's).

I've listened to some grado 80's and 300's (I may be wrong but they were 300ish) and found them, well shrill and harsh are the wrong words, dry maybe - but not ( to me) as well rounded as the sennheisers.

Ban boring signatures!

Pretty much spot on about my feelings of the same Grados and even the original "flagship" I sold for 1300.00. Sennheisers I've heard tend to be much more balanced.

I have to say, using the H8 without Bluetooth gives a much better deeper bass & middle than the H6.

It all depends on the music, after listening to both before buying, if you like modern/pop/dance over instrumental/classical I'd say go for the H8, otherwise H6 is good. Listen to both in store and get what you prefer Yes - thumbs up
