I own a pair of Beovox Penta in very good condition. Almost no scratches on the stainless steel surfaces, I have replaced the speaker cloth to white cloth, and the foam surronds on the midranges are replaced.

However, one of the speakers does not sound so good, especially for higher pitch songs, with a scrunch coming and going. I suspected it was the tweeter and bought an new used tweeter but the scrunch is still there after replacing the old tweeter. I have handed the speaker in to an authorized B&O service partner who could not identify the scrunch. I have the speakers hooked up to a Harman Kardon AVR 255 receiver. For some songs the sound is great but for others you hear the scrunch very clearly.

Anyone that knows what the problem could be or has experienced the same issue and fixed it? Could it be a problem with the speaker crossover?

This sounds like you placed the surrounds not the proper way.

Centering the surrounds optical around the dustcap makes that sometimes the mids "crunchs" when it vibrates or manually moving the conus.

Another thing. Look at L3 on the mids filterboard.

I don't know what a scrunch sounds like. Is it a scraping sound? If so it'll be one of the midrange drivers rubbing. I had a similar problem on mine until I redid one of the surrounds. If you push them all gently inwards you will hear the scraping from the one that needs doing.

I'm pretty sure it is not one of the midranges drivers rubbing because of the new surrounds. The noise was there before replacing the surrounds and I have checked the kids after the replacement.

Maybe scrunch is not the right word to describe the noise. It is more of a radio noise coming through for certain songs, in Swedish "knaster" or "sprak", i.e. a crackle.

Beobuddy, where do I find the mids filterbord and L3? What should I check? I don't know much about the speakers' electronics.

All the crossover boards are in the bottom of the speaker. You have to take off the hexagonal base with an Allen key and remove the screws holding the plastic cover at the bottom of the speaker. You can then pull off the cover and behind that you will find the boards. These boards slide out if you give them a pull. Be careful of all the wiring though. If you disconnect things make sure they all go back in the right places.
