Hi everybody,
Please feel free to redirect me to other threads if this topic has been discussed before. I have searched this forum quite a bit but haven't been able to find an answer to my question.
I am currently using the Playmaker in a simple setup together with two BeoLab 4000 speakers. The music is stored on a Synology NAS and streamed via DLNA.
Since having to use my phone or tablet for volume control does not really convey the relaxed feeling of enjoying my music, I am thinking about getting a Beo 4 remote control to do this. Here's my question: Using the Beo 4 remote, will I also be able to play/pause the DLNA playback (and possibly even skip to the next track)?
I know that using the Playmakers "scroll wheel" to adjust the volume forwards the new output level to the audio app on my NAS (or iOS device, if AirPlay is used instead of DLNA). But will it also be able to receive a play/pause command and forward it the same way?

I am using it with airplay and the stop function works, the forward i frankly havent tried.
For remote, your dealer might br able to get you a replacement for the Beosound A8, that should work too and might be nicer since you have fewer unused buttons

Thanks! The skip/forward function is not as important to me as a working play/pause button, so this information is really all I needed.
Your advice to use an A8 remote instead of a Beo4 (which would in fact be somewhat overkill for my uses) sounds interesting. In your experience, does the A8 remote have a comparable range?

Before I hooked my Playmaker up to my BS9000 I was using it direct into my speakers, and found that, with iTunes/Airplay, the pause/play worked, and I could skip forward and back in the playlist/album I was listening to. Not sure if that works with DLNA, never tried that as all my music is either Spotify or iTunes.

In my experience the Beo4 is not a reliable way of either play/pause or advance when using DNLA with Playmaker. I just experimented with my Nexus 7 using both PlugPlayer and Skifta, and neither gave very good results. I could generally stop what was playing, but re-starting caused SW lock ups and I had to revert to the screen of my Nexus 7. It would not advance tracks. I was streaming from my NAS (Twonky) at the time. Of course you may have better results with different player software, but I would test before committing to what may be an unworkable solution.
To be honest, I never had reliable results using Android devices and DNLA with PM. However, after many years of resisting Apple products, I obtained an old iPhone 4 (not even 4s) from my sister with a broken screen. I fitted a new screen, updated the SW and it has worked flawlessly with Playmaker since day one - not a single software glitch or lock up! I just tested it, again streaming from Twonky and with QMusic as the player over AirPLay to the PM, and it works very well with the Beo4 - I am able to stop/start and advance tracks, all very smoothly.
My advice, buy a second life iPhone (or even iPod) and use that as your PM remote - it just works!
(And many apologies to all those who told me to move to iThingys many moons ago! You were right!)

If anyone uses their Playmaker with a DLNA-Server, I would be grateful for a short note regarding the skip/forward functionality. Otherwise I think I'll just be an optimist and order the remote.
I posted a while back but it is 'being moderated' - basically I don't recommend using Beo4 with DNLA - I never got it to work properly and AirPlay is MUCH better!
Buy a second life iPhone or iPod to use as a remote!
