Hi All
After having changed all caps with Dillen's kit, fantastic service, my mint condition CD4500 will still not read discs..
What happens is, that the disc is 90% of the times read the first time pressing play, and the reading of number of tracks is working, and track 1 starts playing..
If I just let it play, it will play the disc without any problems at all, and I can also FFWD or RWD as I like.
The problem is, when skipping to track 4, the laser just makes funny noises, and then the playing is stopped. Skipping to track 2 and 3 normally works fine. If I FFWD to track 8, then I sometimes can skip to 9 and 10, but then 11 will make it stop..
Dillen has suggested that I change caps in the powersupply, and I will try to find some replacements and try that out.
The laser voltage is at the correct 50mv setting (I have not adjusted it).
Anyone with great ideas on how to get this back to life ?
Could it actually be a faulty laser ?

Hmmm, found out yesterday, that if I place th eunit upright on it's right side, then it works 95%, so I guess it is not the laser that is having problems, but has something to do with the physics regarding the focus / arm movements...
A bit more difficult to fix I guess ?
it is a CDM4/13 unit.
Anyone ?
I have same, but it makes also noise when upright... Suspension?
blah-blah and photographs as needed
Check flatcables between decoderboard and laserunit.
I found a donor unit last night, with broken glass.. Just swapped over servoboard and cd unit, and now it's all good..
Will experiment further with the defect unit in the cold winter evenings :)
I have checked all flatcables, and they look fine, I suspect it is the angle of the laser, so I will see if I can get the adjustment setup for adjusting the angle, set up at one point..
