Entering a B&O shop it's like entering an Audi showroom don't you think ?

Avant, A8, S8, A2, S3, A6...

I have to agree with you on that one... When I saw the "A6 has landed" title, I thought Paul W bought himself an Audi A6 with a B&O sound system. Real names are easier to link with the actual product. Pena, Redline, Avant, Cona, etc. instead of " I like the beolab 18, or was it 19? Or to stay in car terms, the names of the different Land Rover models vs. Audi is a good example.

I guess that is a pretty individual matter - I do remember the numbers better.

With the Bang & Olufsen products they usually relate to the age of the products - BL9 came before the BL20.

With the B&O Play products they relate to 'how expensive' they are - remember the A3, small and rather inexpesive, the A9 big and expensive.

No rule without exceptions, however.

I'm not sure. I only popped into the Audi showroom for a moment.

I used to use Audi showrooms before the products became vulgar.

the use of the A prefix does not appear to have a reason. When does the tougher Range of Q products arrive ?

the A8 was headphones , then it was a docking device.Strange

Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1

Haha yes I've got an A3 with the B&O speaker system. I chose it on its low emissions and cyclinder on demand engine. Its elegant but I think the jeeps Q are vulgar definitely. They had a bad reputation many years ago when I lived in Liverpool - it was the new Burberry :)

Yes I like a name on a product better, it's got more humanity about it I guess with the exception of the RENAULT 5 which was totally adored by many :)

I really couldn't see me driving an Audi A6 those are HUGE - I am the worst driver :) More of a biker :)

Hi yes, the naming is rather similar

I remember when Volvo introduced the S40 they wanted to call it the S4, the V40 the V4 and so on, but Audi kicked up a fuss - and this was when those were just coming in to existence - so someone, somewhere, thinks this naming structure is great.

To me - it says nothing about the product and explaining it to others, goes like this "so is that the 6, no that's the 8. Oh " lol

I don't mind it either way because i know what each product is, but others might find it confusing :-)

Beolit is nice (one of the reason I bought it is the name, I wanted a Beolit !), Avant also.

Loved Ouverture.

The best ? Beomaster of course (even if it´s the name of the range and not a product. We need a 2016 Beomaster.

I am not sure about BeoMaster, but I like BeoSound, but that is sometimes incongruent with me because I don't really like the "Beo" prefix in most of the product line, but I accept it and have embraced it :-)

So, I wonder if:

  • a is for audio
  • s is for system
  • h is for head
  • v is for vision

The danger of simple names like S6 or 6S is highlighted by these pieces of puffery

http://www.macrumors.com/2015/09/03/6s-marketing-iphone-6s-name-change/

http://recode.net/2015/09/04/new-york-ad-agency-to-apple-find-another-name-for-the-iphone-6s/

The firm, 6S ("six-ess" i.e. "Success"), hails from the era of the introduction the V70 etc (I think, maybe)

Your right, forgot about Moment, I like that one.

Different for Essence because it also means "petrol" in french.

When I ask my wife if she put petrol in her car I ask : "as-tu mis l'essence dans ta voiture ?".

essence is a bit weird, but it also means the distillation of something, so i get the petrol reference, but it is also the spirit (petroleum spirit) of something else, and in this case, the spirit of the brand. I myself would have called it something else. And not the spirit of ecstasy, which could mean something all together different.

So it seems the Bang & Olufsen products are going by names,

The B&O Play are going by product codes

as long as we do not follow the car worlds policy on over badging every panel and surface ...

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.
