Hello

I have a beosystem 5000 that I've had for a few years now and recently it has been playing up.

When I try to play a record, on 5005, the system comes on and begins to play, after 15 seconds or so the whole thing shuts down. Sometimes it plays for slightly longer, 1 or 2 minutes and then does the same thing.

This issue is sporadic and sometimes works perfectly, but im beginning to get worried as I know that the cost of repair to the system will be massive.

Any help on this would be great.

Regards

Those systems are getting to the age where some electronics restoration is needed. Here are a couple of threads from this year where I got my Beosystem 5000 and 5500 working again. The receivers in both cases (Beomaster 5000 and Beomaster 5500) needed replacement capacitors. My Beomaster 5000 also required a replacement of one of the integrated circuits. Yours sounds like a power problem. I wouldn't think the repair cost will be very massive. Those receivers are pretty easy to work on if all that is needed are capacitors replaced. Well worth repairing the system I think.
Where are you located? Maybe there are some techs at Beoworld that can repair the unit for you or direct you to a good repair shop.

Hello

Thanks for the reply.

I turned the unit on yesterday and the same thing happened with the record player, it also happened again with an aux cable through the tape 1 setting. Although when trying it again it worked fine for a couple of hours.

I live in Hackney, east London. Any help with a tech would be great, although I'm a student and I don't have much cash, how much do you think I'd be looking at ?

I understand but I couldn't venture to guess what it would cost to get the receiver or system restored there in the UK. The 5000 system is designed to be easily serviced but make sure you find someone that has experience and expertise in that B&O system.
